U.S.A. Indiana

This is the "Not In" thread, or for anyone that's planning on applying for Spring Semester by the Sept 1st deadline.

We need love too! :loveya:

My Boring Stats:

A's in prereq's except ANP 2...taking that class now.

Horribly embarrassing TEAS at 76, still have two more tries. (Which is why I'm taking math and phys sci this summer. lol)

Hope to get into the Bloomington or Terre Haute programs. (Yay! Greene county gets region pts at both. lol)

Currently frazzling myself out with 5 online classes

It's nice to meet you....whoever you are....

I did take Dr. *******'s class. That was quite possibly the hardest class I have ever taken ( till now)

Carlos, Yes the endocrine chapter is a loooooong one! But hey if you got an A in an 8-wk 101, then I'm sure you'll get one in 102 also!

I dont know, but we will see.

Hey blindmouse/Amber, we are in the same 102 class! I am Chris, well in the class it lists me as Christine. I know what you mean about the lab quizzes actually being over the labs--I always wondered why the quizzes in 101 were not and quite honestly barely did any lab stuff for that class. Not so for 102! I took 101 out of Muncie and the prof. was more 'involved' than this one seems to be.

Kelli, I will be taking chem and micro in the fall, both online. How about you? I also want to take Eng 211 in fall but I can't register for it because even after almost a year of Ivy Tech having my transcripts, they still have not been evaluated to have credit applied for the freshman comp I took, oh, almost 22 yrs ago LOL. I do not understand why it takes Ivy Tech so long to evaluate transcripts. Ridiculous.

Csab,

Have you gone to the program chair for them to evaluate your transcripts? It would probably be faster.

csab- Ok, I think we r taking the same online Chem class (is that you)? Or r u also on Indymoms.com w/me? I can't remember!

Kelli, I'm on indymoms as Chris3Boys. I'm not taking Chem until fall.

NewRN09, yes I've shown my transcripts to the nursing chair, and she told me that yes I can use those grades on my application; however she can't officially give me the credit, that has to come through the registrar's office. Because I have no official credit for Eng 111 in the system, it won't let me register for any higher Eng class. Probably toward the end of the summer I will go into the Registrar's office and tell them to either give me the credit while I'm standing there LOL, or I'll get an advisor to override the system to let me register.

I noticed a lot of people are taking the online courses and was wondering why that was. I have always been a tad leery of taking anything online because of the lack of an instructor/classmates to help with questions. How have you found the difficulty of the course work? How are the tests done? Thanks for any feedback!

I took Eng 211 and Comm 102 as 8wk online classes last semester along with Ivy 101 (which was 16wks.). Those were my first online classes and I loved them! It was so convenient to do the work when my boys were in bed, and I never needed a babysitter. I am a little overwhelmed w/ ANP 102 online though probably more because I know an A is important! 101 is pretty easy, but I just finished the class a month ago! I have already taken the first 4 quizzes, and got all the points.

csab- ok, I couldn't for the life of me remember!

I have a system that helps me decide whether to take an online class. I look, and if the class meets more than once a week, I go online.

So, consequently, since all of my classes have been 8 week, I've taken all online. Tests that you can take at home are usually done right in Blackboard, and you can use the book or notes. Some require lockdown browser, which doesn't let you access ANYTHING else on the screen, including "print". Important exams are usually proctored (taken in a local Ivy testing center.)

To make up for class discussion, they have discussion boards (which kind of works like this forum) some are interesting, some require input to/from other students, and some are more like essays. A lot of classes have CourseCompass (which is expensive, but NEEDED in Anatomy & Math classes)

It depends on which classes you take as well. I notice a trend that classes that aren't REQUIRED don't usually have proctored exams. Math and Science are more homework-y.....answering questions out of the book, etc.

I really enjoy online courses.....I give them credit for my good grades. HOWEVER, not everyone feels that way.

I've noticed the same thing with this instructor. Most instructors try to make things "fun" even though it is hard. I don't see that happening in this class. Maybe I just have to adjust to the teaching style? I did a lot of "youtube" labs in 101. I couldn't see paying THAT much for the labpaq, and then going out and buying 80 MORE things for the experiments.
