Ivy Tech 2017 Applicants

I got into the spring 2017 program with a score of 142.46. A friend of mine got into the Columbus program for fall 2016 with a 131. It all depends on the strength of the applicant pool. I will say that the new application system is going to probably make it a bit tougher to get in because there aren't going to be any applications terminated due to paper errors. If there is an issue with the application, the system alerts you to fix it. Also the new teas test is more than likely going to strengthen the applicant pool because I was told the test is going to include many more aphy questions than the previous form that was replaced in September 2016. My teas had many more earth science questions than aphy questions. Your points from pre reqs are very important. Just as important as your teas. This is because the points drop by so much from one letter grade to the next. If you do extremely well on the teas, it can make up for your B in the aphy class. I wouldn't be too discouraged. Have you taken any practice tests for the teas? The practice tests in the teas study guide were very good for helping me prepare. Let me know if you have anymore questions.

Just to elaborate a bit more on the importance of the class grades, with your current situation you get 20pts for aphy101, 15pts for psych101, and 15pts for eng111. You start with 50pts then add your tease score to it. The tease score is a weighted score based off of the 4 parts of the tease. So, to be really competitive, shoot for an 85 or more on the tease. This would translate to a score of 135 or more. Based on what I have seen, a 135 point score would give you at least a 75% chance of getting into a pretty competitive campus. So don't sweat it too much.

I was told by my nursing advisor that I "MUST" get an A in A&P 101. So that is what I will be striving for. Yes, TEAS is important -- but as it has been already pointed out, all of these things come together to determine your final # of points.

I know my friend who got in with the 131 had a B in aphy101. If she had an A her score would have been 141! Although you can get in with the lower score, your chances increase greatly with a score above 140. Like the previous post says, your counselor will have a better idea of how strong your score is. I personally think that the application process is over hyped by the staff. Nothing was even close to being as hard as my advisors have told me. I think they do this to get students to try and obtain the highest score possible. I think there was someone in my group that got in with a score in the high 120's. Of course it's possible to skip into the program, but being competitive will have its rewards

YES. I have wanted to get moving on this, ever since I made the decision in October. While I have plenty to do in life to keep me busy ~ it is always there in the back of my mind.

I'm not sure whether there is more I should be doing in the next month to prepare for classes & TEAS... Or if I should be really focused on my family and enjoying everything I can between now and The Big Life Change.

For the teas test, just get the study guide that ati sells. There were no questions on my teas test that the study guide did not go over. It's a great resource. I found mine on offer up for $15. From what I have seen so far, things pretty expensive when you get accepted into the program. I would be putting some money back each month to pay for books and supplies. I did not do this because I expected financial aid to cover most of it, but I was very wrong and now am scrambling to scrape cash together at the last moment. So be prepared on that front.

I got the TEAS SECRETS study guide on Amazon, since it has such better reviews (400 of them, and solid 5-star). I just went to look again, and... Yeah. The reviews for ATI's are just not good. I don't know what's up with that.

I did not qualify for financial aid at all... so I hear you. Thanks for the tip. Hard to save up "extra" each month when you have no such thing!

The practice tests in the teas study guide were very helpful. I'm glad you found a source that helps you. I honestly think that much of this stuff is over hyped by the staff. I do not want to sound bad or like a lazy student, but I have found that if you show up to every class, and participate in discussions, the material sticks pretty well, but that's how I remember things best. By discussion. All the people from my anatomy classes that would complain about how hard it was or that were failing were the ones that would leave early, not show up a lot of times, or would not engage in the labs or lecture.

What has your advisor said about your score? I'm not sure about the FW campus, but I would think you have about a 50/50 shot. That's just a guess though.
