I'm planning to take a IV and phlebotomy course and apparently I was told that students must practice IV initiation and venipuncture on each other? I thought we only have practice on a dummy. I was just wondering if this is the standard for taking IV and phlebotomy courses.
When I was in school they told us the IV needles in the student kit weren't sterile, they may have just told us this to discourage us from sticking each other, but it worked. I'm a chicken when it comes to being stuck, (I'll stick you all day, but don't come at me with a needle) 30 weeks of blood draws during both pregnancies will do that to you, so I definitely wouldn't want a brand new "sticker" attempting an IV on me.
Thank you everyone for all your replies. I'm in Canada and that school is located in the GTA, I received the information directly from the school and I was really surprised to heard that. Should I proceed taking the course or cancel it? Any suggestions?
Is the school a public community college or a private school?

Proceed with the course. Let the instructor know of your concerns. I believe they will monitor with caution if that is what they do.
