How do the different hospitals out there charge for IV fluids and IV tubing??? We currently use a pharmacy charge sheet, where we place pharmacy stickers, that are located on each package of the fluid/tubing. This is not working well and lots of lost charges. Any better ideas?
just out of curiosity... how much does something like that cost, like a primary and secondary IV tubing set? (we dont scan or charge anything here for patients in canada)
General US wholesale prices for primary gravity drip tubing can be around $3-6 each. Pump tubing sets vary widely, on average $7-12 ea. Secondary sets are around $1-2 ea. :)

Thankyou for the information! There are plenty of us in Canada who just use things without even thinking how much it actualy costs.
True, i just meant that we dont have to do any scanning of codes or costs to the patient :)
I understand. But even when I have to check something on sheet to charge it to the patient, it doesn't list the cost. So I never really know how much things are unless I happen to find out incidentally some other way.
Our basic IV fluids (NS, D5, etc) are just kept in our med room stock (i.e. we don't have to sign it out from the pyxis). We chart on the eMAR when it is hung and then we chart in the NN when the fluid is complete (i.e. bolus 1000 mL NSS complete). I'm presuming the tubing cost is included in the cost of the fluids (?).

IVF and tubing both pulled from Pyxis under the patient's name. Start/stop times documented in EMR.
