how nescessary is it for an lvn to get their iv certification before applying for a first job???

i've heard that some hospitals will put you through a course before hiring you, but then i've also heard thet it's better if have the iv cert because they'll hire you over another lvn without it.

so, i need a little input.

also, my school offers a course but its not until march ( i graduate this month). if i decide to take the class, i would like to shop around. do you guys know who offers iv certifications in the san fernando valley or l.a. area???

I'm looking for a class near me too! You'd think they'd be offered more frequently...but it doesn't appear to be that way.

The best way to find a place that does IV certification near you, is to check the BON website for LVN's. They have a listing of IV certification providers that they recognize.

Best of luck!

I did my IV cert at Casa Loma in Van Nuys and loved the class. The teacher was wonderful and the students were motivated.

I got mine through flex ed, but I started my new job without it, they just told me I had to get enrolled asap. Sometimes the hospital you get hired at will have a contract with an education company & you can do the class for a much cheaper price, so it may be best to wait until you are hired to do it.

I'm in the LVN program at Mission College in Santa Clara. They have it set up so that in the window between graduating and getting your NCLEX test date, you take the IV certification program. This way, when you pass your NCLEX, you have your IV endorsement done.

I graduated from Mission College last May! Tell Marsha not to be hard on you in endocrine!:chair: And be sure to tell Edith "I am the nurse!"
