IUD retrieval??

Published

Hey to all, just a question... In the event that a pt's IUD strings are not palpable or visible (and IUD placement is confirmed via ultrasound) and she wishes to have it removed, what's the general procedure that you have seen?

Here in the UK have seen 2 removed but only after confirmation by ultra sound first and then the GP removed it with a tool which looked something similar to this which helped recover the threads and removed successfully if difficult then referred to specialist threadretriever.jpg

Ultrasound first, then removal by a IUD retriever as posted by Silverdragon.

Mine just expelled this week, after having it in for 6 months. grrr. Once I'm sure I"m not preggo I'm getting another one - last try! If the 2nd comes out, I'll find an alternate BC method.

ETA - I should say partially expelled - it was stuck in the cervix and the Dr. tugged on the strings to pull it out. ouch!
