ITT RN Program

U.S.A. Indiana

Hello everyone! I was just curious to see if anyone has any information about ITT Tech? Any info would be appreciated :nuke:

They said when you go for a job all they want is your license

That is definitely untrue.

Thanks LafayetteErin for the congrats on passing the TEAS! I missed that post the other day.

Anyway I went for the interview today and I think it went well...she is supposed to call me this evening to let me know. If I do get accepted then I will be listed as an alternate and pending whether or not someone drops, I could be starting September 27th. If not then I will have a guaranteed spot already for the January start date.

& yeah the comment about jobs only caring about whether you have a license or not I do not believe is true because a lot of hospitals are going for "magnet status"

I don't know where you are located. I have called several hospitals in Northwest IN and also in California and Indianapolis where I may relocate after school. I spoke with the nurse recruiter and the director of HR. They all told me that as long as I have a License and graduated from a school that is accredited by the state board of nursing I will be fine. However, California there will be a little more paper work I would have to do since it's not the state I received my license from. I am not saying all hospitals only want license because some do care more about the school. I might run into a few problems if in another state but I am not one bit worried about it because I am sure that Itt Tech will get their NLNAC accredidation. God is good and I leave all the worries to him.

Here in Indianapolis I know some hospitals like Clarian and Community won't hire you if you didnt graduate from an NLNAC accredited school, but like you I am confident my school will get it. I believe they are coming to our school in October for a site visit. And like you said God is good, I am just thankful for this opportunity... I almost didn't see it being possible anymore.

So, I had my interview and the admissions lady called me at 8pm and said that I was accepted as an alternate right now for the September 27th start date!! YES!!! I know it may sound horrible but I am hoping that someone cannot attend and I get bumped up, she sounded confident that I would...maybe someone will find out they are expecting, that wouldn't be bad lol.

Ms Tee how long is ITTs program? I know they are expensive as well, did financial aid cover everything?

Hi Emmi7 Itt's program is 2yrs and 3 months. The reason for the xtra 3months is because they make you take a critical care class and clinical at the end. No financial aide did not cover it all, I had to take out 10,000 in loans for the first 9 months. A lot I know. I had so many credits transfer that I will not pay the full amt. It still is expensive though, 492 a credit hr. How much is medTech?

Med Tech is 21 months long, financial aid will not cover the entire program either. It is $5495 a quarter and then ATI fees, books, scrubs, clinical rotation fees, etc...but in the end it will be worth it.

Make 120 payments on your loans while working as a nurse and get your loans forgiven:) ...hopefully that is still offered once we graduate!!

Is that a specific hospital you're talking about that does that? I know some do loan repayments. I hope that I can find a job that will help me pay off my loans!

ErinRN2Be nope no certain hospital. It is called the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Also the state of IN has a loan repayment program as well which I believe is like a contract that you commit to working as a nurse in the state of IN for a certain amount of years.

I know a lot of hospitals will help their nurses with furthering their education like the RN-BSN programs or MSN programs though.

Perhaps my opinion will help.

I am a fairly new student, going into my third quarter at ITT. There are ups and downs.

Ups

+Prerequisites are a part of the program.

+Classes are not M-F (though working full time while taking the nursing program is almost impossible.)

+The teachers are skilled in their profession and bring a lot to the classroom.

+VERY HARD WORK! I have seen several different “trade” schools spoon feed passing grades to their students. I have to work hard for my grades which are both rewarding and encouraging.

+There is no down time in class, meaning each minute of class is full of learning material, lecture, or lab.

DOWNS

-Cost.

-New program, the newer students get to smooth out the kinks in the program. Still, while some exams might be frustrating, the labs and lectures are full of information.

-There is a small amount of time to learn a lot of material. I would be willing to take on a few weeks/months to spend more time on certain subjects.

-No medical terminology class for the RN program. (I want this class!!!)

All in all, I’m not sorry I started going to ITT. It’s hard work and sometimes frustrating, but I’m sure most students anywhere feel this way. This program is meant for a student who is taking their education very seriously, there is no room for slackers. The accelerated rate is not for everyone, so think about whether you can dedicate 30 to 40 hours a week to homework. (No joke you will be spending a lot of time in the books.) The labs are all hands on and the classes are not huge and overwhelming so you can get one on one time with the instructors.

It’s too soon for me to recommend it fully, but I like what I see so far.

thank you for your honest post, I start in September and have been reading the post on here for about 6 months. I d believe you have to be focused to get through any Nursing program but more so an accelerated one.

Well Good Luck to you!!!

I am a graduate from ITT Technical Institute and I don't know what you all are talking about. ITT Tech is a wonderful school. I find it funny that people only post negative experiences. If you are a person that makes your decisions based off of what people post you probably should not be at school anyways especially in the field of Nursing. I don't care what school you attend there are always positives and negatives. Yeah a private school may be more expensive but I hear people complaining all the time about how many years and electives they have to take at Community colleges. ITT provides hands on training with less general education classes.

Which campus did you attend? What advice can you offer?

Thanks in advance

Well, I'll just have to say, I'm in my 3rd quarter at ITT. I know for a fact at least 4 RNs who have graduated and have jobs. I don't remember all of the hospitals that are hiring them but I know Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital and Community South will hire ITT Tech RNs. The only reason hospitals won't hire ITT Tech graduates is because they are not NLN accredited yet. This is an optional accreditation. It is what hospitals consider 'magnet status'. If a hospital is going for a 'magnet status' they will not hire unless the school is NLN accredited. I work with an RN from Medtech, however, she was not thrilled with the program. But that doesn't mean you can't get a job and you aren't qualified. You take and pass the same test as everyone else. I did research on ITT for a full year before deciding to apply. I contacted the NLN, they said ITT was currently in 'condidacy status'. They had a couple of things they needed to change and I have seen changes being made through the school. I am not aware to how serious the changes are, but I can say, the teacher I have had have been wonderful. They are very educated and have patience. And yes, the classes go to the very end. Now, they have added prerequisites to my class. My class is the first one that has to take Microbiology. So, I'm not saying the school is perfect, but they have shown signs of at least 'trying'. I suggest doing your research. If you are worried about it, go to Marion. It's a 3year Bach program. I know a girl who took pre-reqs for one semester and got in the next semester. But, I don't think I'm going to throw ITT out the window.
