ITT RN grad RN to BSN programs

Published

I am graduating from ITT Breckinridge School of Nursing next term and am having difficulty finding an acceptable school to do my bridge degree. UTA is not an option because I live in the state of Washington and WGU is not of any interest to me because of the P/NP grading scale.

Before any of you bash the fact that I am attending ITT let me tell you why (I haven't seen a single post about ITT on here that was good from a commenters view). I was working on my Pre-Med pre-req's in 2011-2013, 2013 I became pregnant and decided to finish the term I was currently in at the time. I had my son in 2014, when I had him I knew I had to go back to school so that I can give him a better life than I was given. I knew attending a for-profit nursing school would be the fastest route to earning a better income. I am contracted with Fresenius who I have worked for for 6 years to work an additional 2 years as an RN in return for them assisting with my tuition, so I don't have to look for a RN position after graduation. Since I will be a nurse in the coming months and I've always wanted to be a provider I am now looking to enter a DNP program down the road.

With that said I need help finding a school that is inexpensive, not lengthy in the bridge program, quality education and that I wouldn't have to repeat classes I have already taken.

Thank you for your responses in advance!

You should look into Ohio University. Congrats on graduating and don't worry so much about the next level. Just complete where you are now and enjoy it.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

Just a thought: what about doing an RN to MSN/FNP? Or whichever kind of provider you want to be? ACNP? There are programs that go from RN to MSN, and some do award the BSN at that point in case something happens and you don't finish the MSN portion.

In any case, I keep seeing commercials for Southern New Hampshire University: snhu.edu. Accredited, not for profit, tuition seems reasonable. RN to BSN Online Program | Bachelors in Nursing | SNHU. I also recommend Excelsior College for the same reason: accredited, not for profit, and the people I know who have attended loved the program (as much as you can love school, lol): Excelsior College | Bachelors Degrees Nursing | Nursing Degrees, Programs | Online RN BSN

I am also graduating ITT-Breckenridge next month. I started looking at schools as well, and I was so interested in applying to UTA. However after reading your post I guess I won't be able to get in their as well. At one point I was in speaking with a recruiter and she never mentioned that they would not accept my school. I emailed her today to see I was still eligible to enroll. (an hour prior) to reading this post. I also had an interest in Drexel University. I spoke with a rep yesterday and was told they don't take Breckinridge students as well. I choose this school because it was the right fit for me after leaving my local community college. I'm not down and out about this, and I am sure there is a school out here that will accept my degree so I can move on. I did find a post once before with a list of schools that would accept student from non-accredited and or other accrediting agencies as well if I find it I will lost the link. Good Luck and God Bless.

Update:When I spoke to a rep from Drexel, I did not realize that I never took into consideration that all but one of my credits that are my preq's came from my local community college. Which are transferable to most institutions that are accredited. Therefore I do I have a better chance of attending an accredited school. However if you completed your preq's through ITT then yes I will say they are not transferable with some colleges and universities. Good luck I hope the above post helps. :)

Thank you! I have since graduated (from a community college since ITT closed their doors) and will be starting school at Linfield College for the RN-BSN program online next term. I took my NCLEX yesterday, I hope I passed but completely feel like I failed. Thank you for your support!

You are more than welcome! Mostly all of my classmates are working as an RN and are all back in school. Glad you were able to transition to another school.

Update I am enrolled into UTA RN-BSN program, and I love it.

Good for you and Im glad it worked out. I attend a nursing program in Ohio and had no problem transferring any of classes, they took every single credit that I had from the community colleges as well as from Breckenridge. So nothing is ever impossible you just have to keep trying and seeking out what you want.
