  1. Tu RN and Bhebe55 how different is the process applying for civilian schools versus military? I have never even thought of applying for civilian schools. I spent several years in the Reserves as a medic with the plan of going to nursing school, getting into ICU and then applying for the Army CRNA program. I had never planned on getting out but getting out made it easier to finish nursing school and grow a family. Now that I am starting in ICU I am growing more and more motivated to apply for CRNA school when I meet the requirements. How was BOLC and DCC? Where did you do those? Did you do them in Feb/Mar before school started? How much time between those and school starting was there to get your stuff in order? Are there students in your cohort that have families there with them? i am certain I’ll have more questions soon. Thanks for answering all of my questions btw! You guys rock!
  2. I did my RN to BSN at Linfield College. The bridge program is fully online with minimal "clinical" requirements that are more community service than anything else. Linfield is regionally and federally accredited. They are a smaller private school but have students from all over the country in the bridge program. Check them out.
  3. How has your experience been thus far?At this point you would be in 2nd semester correct? Are your classes solely GPAN students or are there other specialties mixed in?How much homework and how much class time do you average?Do you wear uniforms on campus or dress as other students do?Are there civilians in your classes?Do you have to do daily reporting? How about daily PT?How often are y'all meeting for (Military) administration duties?Sorry about so many questions, I am likely not the only one with questions.
  4. Your program doesn't sound like it would be the best fit for joining the military while you are currently in. There wouldn't be time nor would there be the technology needed to complete your classes online while at Basic training. You may need to wait and get a waiver for age. The best way to find out if it will fit you is by talking to a recruiter.
  5. PJishere- Congrats on the new job and great for your for doing what it takes to get your degree! <3 My first job was in a Dialysis facility that I worked at during nursing school. After a couple months I was hired into a residency program at a local hospital that required a 1 year contract and after my 2nd year I moved to another county and took a job at a different hospital that requires a 2 year contract. I at first was hesitant to take the job because I don't dream of living in this area long term but I ended up taking it because I had a greater chance of getting into critical care there then if I had gone back to a guaranteed job in dialysis. Use this job as a stepping stone to get what you want and where you want. If you dream of labor and delivery or critical care or neurosciences or care management, use the job to help you get there. Be a forever sponge, continue learning and striving to be better. What I would do when your contract is near done is apply for a position on a military base or get in at the VA so that when your husband is relocated you can be relocated to and get more government benefits when you both retire. Also if your husband is stationed elsewhere when he gets back and you need to relocate with him there should be a clause in the contract for that. Check your hospital policies, both hospitals I've worked in have that in their policies. No retribution because of it. Good luck!
  6. 1. Could I join now and finish school? You are actively in Nursing school? You would have to do split training if so. Your Basic training would be this coming summer between terms and your MOS (job) school the summer after. Do you have a previous bachelors degree? That would change the length of time you need for training if you entered as an officer but you still will need the time for your MOS training. Also If you choose not to enter before you graduate you may need a waiver to enter as the age limit is 42. As for your other questions: 2. Is it likely to be deployed as a new grad rn. This will be entirely dependent on your unit and whether they are schedule to deploy or not. My reserve unit was on a 7 year rotation (meaning every 7 years they are up for deployment). 3. Is the retirement/pay worth it if you manage to stay stateside for entire commitment. Your retirement will not be enough to live off of when you retire but will be a good supplement to whatever retirement you get elsewhere. 4. Are deployments optional ( someone told me you do not have to deploy if you don’t want to) Deployments are not optional and if you choose to not deploy with your unit then you may get charged with AWOL (absence without leave) under federal jurisdictions. 5. How to filter out lies from recruiters I don't know that there is a tried and true method to filtering out the BS... Ask them as many questions as you can that you want answered then find a different recruiter (preferably one who is a friend or a friend of a friend) and ask them the same questions. 6. If deployed does family stay behind Yes. There is no place for family on a deployment, you may be entering a hostile environment and that would put your innocent family in danger. You'll be paid hazard pay, separation pay, sustenance pay, a housing allowance as well as your basic pay in lieu of your family being with you.
  7. I will have to check out University of New England, thank you! I have been having trouble finding a class online. Oregon doesn't have many online classes for sciences unfortunately. Thank you
  8. Thank you! That is reassuring. I plan to apply without CCRN and without the 2 year preferred time in ICU (knowing that I will likely not get in). I am not afraid of applying twice when I do have the required even though if I were to get in I would have them by matriculation. Again Pizzabox2 thank you! How did your application process go, most specifically the accession packet? Did you get into Baylor?
  9. Hi everyone! I have been scouring this forum to see if anyone has posted the approximate timelines for each step? Such as when you applied for direct accession and submitted packet, applied to Baylor, scheduled and had interview/shadow. I am looking at all of the information to possibly start the application process for 2021 or 2022 but the dates on the website don't make the most sense. I have not started talking to a recruiter but plan to in the coming months (I am currently in process of losing weight after having my most recent baby). My plans are as follows: I accepted a position in the CVICU/MICU and start on the 27th of October (next schedule cycle).GRE in February 2020OCHEM in March-June (no schools in my area offer Biochem and I can't find a course online)Start the direct accession packet in summer 2020Apply to Baylor in February 2021September 2021 find out if I get chosen for BaylorFebruary the next year attend DCC and then BOLCJune start CRNA schoolDoes this sound right, do I need to modify anything? Those of you that have already completed the process can you give insight as to what to expect, timeframes and all of that? I am too late to apply for the 2021 start right or how could I modify this to apply for 2021? I appreciate your input greatly, thank you everyone!!
  10. Thank you! I have since graduated (from a community college since ITT closed their doors) and will be starting school at Linfield College for the RN-BSN program online next term. I took my NCLEX yesterday, I hope I passed but completely feel like I failed. Thank you for your support!
  11. Did you end up going to OHSU? Did you like it? Did you get into your masters program that you wanted? OHSU has the masters program that I want but I am planning on attending Linfield for my RN to BSN this fall. Do you have a better chance of getting into a Masters program at OHSU if you did your BSN there?
  12. "But... I haven't touched you yet"
  13. I am graduating from ITT Breckinridge School of Nursing next term and am having difficulty finding an acceptable school to do my bridge degree. UTA is not an option because I live in the state of Washington and WGU is not of any interest to me because of the P/NP grading scale. Before any of you bash the fact that I am attending ITT let me tell you why (I haven't seen a single post about ITT on here that was good from a commenters view). I was working on my Pre-Med pre-req's in 2011-2013, 2013 I became pregnant and decided to finish the term I was currently in at the time. I had my son in 2014, when I had him I knew I had to go back to school so that I can give him a better life than I was given. I knew attending a for-profit nursing school would be the fastest route to earning a better income. I am contracted with Fresenius who I have worked for for 6 years to work an additional 2 years as an RN in return for them assisting with my tuition, so I don't have to look for a RN position after graduation. Since I will be a nurse in the coming months and I've always wanted to be a provider I am now looking to enter a DNP program down the road. With that said I need help finding a school that is inexpensive, not lengthy in the bridge program, quality education and that I wouldn't have to repeat classes I have already taken. Thank you for your responses in advance!
