Currently enrolled students- you need to be making alternative educational plans RIGHT NOW! This is bad. Very bad.
I find the comments and opinions of some of you posters to be to be very elitist. I understand that your personal views of these universities might be based on your own perceptions. I would like to tell you as a student of one of these for-profit universities, I find my educational system to be adequate and aligned with the rest of the programs from"brick and mortar" schools. In the end, is it not the pass rates that matter on NCLEX? Plenty of our students pass with a 95-98% which is higher than some of the traditional schools in my area.
There are a few good for profits. Expensive but good. If your school has a high completion and pass rate, that's great. More power to you.
Unfortunately, there are others that are selling dreams and have very low completion and pass rates. One that recently closed was in the 40-50% rate. That is abysmal. I've had Chamberlain students on my unit in the past, and I think they were just fine, and have a high pass rate in Illinois.
In addition to the threat of taxpayers taking a hit, all of the nursing student hopefuls in Oregon are at risk of an even longer delay into local nursing programs(Not to mention expired prerequisites). As community based nursing programs such as PCC are currently discussing potential ways to accommodate the displaced ITT students, individuals such as myself are on edge wondering how acceptance into the already limited programs will be even remotely attainable. My though is that the government will strongly encourage a tax incentive "community college bailout" in opposition to any loan forgiveness programs. If only I would have chosen not to ignore the direct quotes of "WE ARE NOT AN ACCREDITED INSTITUTION" by ITT staff when I visited their campus two years ago. I could be that much closer to fulfilling my dream.

"Elitist"???? It's elitist to not want to see poverty stricken people get taken advantage of?? I fail to see how that makes any sense whatsoever.
If your school properly accredited and you intend to pay back your entire student loan, go for it. More power to you. I have a problem with these schools outright lying to naive people who are already in poverty. They promise the moon and stars to these people and in the end, they are left with no job, no degree, and about $30-60k further in debt.
Your post just shows you don't have any understanding as to what we are talking about.
