It's So Hard to Look for a Local Job!!!!

World Philippines

I recently passed the nclex. I'm so thankful to allnurses, the information here helped me a lot to pass it. Since I reviewed and concentrated on the exam, I resigned from my teaching job. Now it's so hard to look for a job opening for staff nurses here. Even trainings are no longer available. I need to earn and save for IELTS. I'm so tempted to apply at a call center company. Any suggestions? I've been to every hospital that I know (UST, St. Lukes, Chinese, UDMC, Amang, Marikina Valley, Heart center, NKTI, Lung center, V. Luna, PGH) I live in fairview qc. There are offers for volunteer nurse at south superhighway medical center in paranaque but I can't afford to work there!!!! No salary, and its too far...Its so depressing.:banghead:

Is there a Medical Mission team that you guys know where I can join? So as to practise my nursing skills. :nurse:

I just want to ask if those of you who passed and were hired by St. Luke's Global City are graduates of Trinity University? I heard that they prioritize their graduates... well, nothing wrong with that. You know guys I suggest you try to volunteer in secondary hospitals, there are a lot of them, maybe even near your residence and you don't have to spend a lot for daily fare... I believe you'll get the same amount of learning experience anyway... am I right? plus you don't have to pay them for training.

I also just want to add to my post as a warning to all recent graduates... that if you really want to practice your profession... do not be deceived into trying for a call center job. Go to whatever hospital near you and do volunteer work. At the same time attend all trainings IVT, BLS, ACLS, ECG, etc. Some of the few tertiary hospitals which I know are accepting resumes of nurse applicants- for HIRING (according to their HR dept): are Capitol Medical Center, St. Lukes, Medical City, Manila East. If you know of some more hospitals, please post them here. Try your luck, submit applications but don't expect too much for an interview call. And while working as a volunteer, apply for licensure in US states.

Of course, we all want to work in the big, tertiary hospitals here in the metro, but lets admit it that not everyone will be given that chance... it's okay to dream big but in our situation right now, we have to grab whatever opportunity that comes. Just my bit of advice.:redpinkhe

I think that with the current situation of the economy today (in the US and the Philippines) and with retrogression still in place, it is really difficult to find a real job that will be considered as real professional nursing experience. More problem sets in when most hospitals offer "certificates" (that apparently is not even considered as legitimate nursing experience) to these nurses in exchange for volunteering and paying a fee so that they will be accepted as "volunteers". The sad part is that, many nurses who are desperate to get the "certificate" buy the story that they can use such a certificate to apply elsewhere or abroad later on. You will be better off doing some other type of job you're qualified to do, perhaps, getting employed in a call center and having a decent pay than being exploited thru volunteering. After all, as long as you have you license, you will always be a nurse. And when the economy, market, and the opportunity becomes better, you can always re-train and be a nurse.

congratzz tinx..i also passed their initial interview..and still w8n 4 mah sked on panel interview..how was the panel interview done..can you gve me a bfrief idea about that..im somehow scared..haha..rily appreciate ur point of view..tnx:yeah:

hi ghandaraRN!

i just would like to ask how you knew that you passed the initial interview.

i was also interviewed a week ago (initial interview), a day after i took the exam (IQ test) and the HR said that we should still wait for a call, text message, or email if ever we would pass the initial interview for the schedule of our panel interview for a maximum of 2 months... so i guess there would be no guarantee that we passed the initial interview. it's really bothering me if i made it or not...:bluecry1:

your reply would be highly appreciated!:nurse:

That really made me think... Actually, I now begin to realize that I am indeed being exploited as a volunteer. I do get to expose myself to the clinical setting but most of the time, its frustrating to know that I work eight hours helping out those regular staff nurses, sharing their workload while they get paid in full. Whenever I start thinking about ending this martyr act, and find a real job outside nursing, I still feel its better that I'm learning...to become a better nurse.

The things that are happenning right now are really alarming...I feel sorry for those who just got there first year in nursing without even thinking what would be the scenario the moment they graduate form college....now that, most of us are stuck being jobless or forced to be trainees for eternity... We should do something about it!!!... Nursing Schools should be screen strickly and turn the NLE...to atleast a year to somehow control the flow of new unfortunate graduates....

I havent read the entire post...but just wondering if a lot of you guys tried applying for a non-hospital based RN? Company RN, clinic RN positions?

again, why do you not look at going to another country to work as an rn, as long as you have the local license, then it should not be an issue. any of these jobs where you have to pay them for the first few months are not considered as work experience, but only as training time.

and with the increase in students there now in nursing programs, it is only going to get worse, not better for any of you. even the number of students has increased to almost a million now in schools, an increase in over 325,000 just from last year. and no jobs even in sight and minimal number of patients so skills are going to suffer. there just is no way around that.

go for work in another country where you can get paid and get experience as an rn. if your goal is to go to another country, then start the process now and do not wait for one country to open up later on for you. it will be much easier for you if you do have the experience under your belt.

i tried to look it up...i tried canada--at least one year of work experience required...

i regularly go to job fairs and nurse expos--middle east has a minimum of two years work experience required...

same goes for uk too!

right now i'm a nurse-trainee at the philippine general hospital, it's a 6-month stint, no salary of course, just a certificate upon completion of the training...

i'm training in a teaching hospital, and everyday is a good learning experience--i basically have the same job as that of the staff nurses but with fewer patient assignments (trainees handle a max of 5 patients, staff has a max of 12-20 or more patients)...

i just hope that an employer or an agency would consider that as an experience. because it sure is! i'm not just paid...

really. very hard. waiting in vain. for months...just have to be patient

hi guys, just want to ask if anyone here took the training offered by quirino memorial medical center in quezon city, how is the process of training, will that be a passport of being hired after completion of training, i mean did you get hired after or do you know someone that got in after the training? how is the process and how long is the waiting period?

thanks, your replies and other information are highly appreciated..:)
