It's official...I'm now a pre-nursing student, Lord help me!

Published

I've registered for my first pre-req's, got my student I.D. and parking permit...just have to get my books and a bookbag/backpack now. I start school on Jan. 10th. I only have to take 5 pre-req's over the next year (the others from my dental hygiene education still count). Yet, as I'm doing all these things to prepare for school, it seems almost surreal.

Did any of you taking on nursing as a second career say the following to yourself (upon going back to school again)?: "WHAT THE HE** AM I DOING??! AM I CRAZY??!" :imbar LOL Half of me is SO excited to go back to school and the other half is freaking out! Not to mention, I will have to learn how to juggle family, work and school.

I've always wanted to become an RN, but even a year ago, I would've never pictured myself actually changing careers and going for it! Guess change is what makes life so exciting!

We're in the same boat...I too just finished registering for my pre-reqs...got the student ID and parking permit. I've been in sales for the past 11 years so this will be an exciting & new adventure for me as well. My school starts Jan. 18th & I can hardly wait! Good luck & keep me posted with how your doing!:)

I've been a pre-nursing student for 3 semesters now and I still freak out wondering if I'm crazy for switching careers. I was a computer programer with a very good salary but just wasn't happy with my career choice. I sold my house, loaded up my son and moved home. It was a big sacrifice and I have to keep telling myself it will be worth it. I should start my ADN program in August.

Don't feel bad! This is my second time around trying to finish pre-reqs (10-years later) and my sisters think I've lost my mind going back to school at age 50! I sincerely believe this is a calling. I've always wanted to be a nurse and have always had jobs that were mostly unfulfillling. I had obstacles, too. I have a job where I work at home now which, to say the least, is the greatest job I've ever had. On the other hand it doesn't pay as much and I have no contact with people except for e-mail during the day. AND, yes, I'm scared to death to sit in a Chemistry class with people who are younger than my daughter, but who cares as long as I stay focused on the subject at hand.

Thanks, Kelly! I will keep you posted. You do the same. :)

I put a new welcome note on my cell phone screen that says: "Future RN...Never give up the dream!" to keep me motivated throughout the upcoming semester.

Marcie,

It's NEVER too late to go for your dreams! My motto in life is: "NEVER have any regrets!", and I always strive to live up to it. I'm 34, and I've always tried to achieve every dream I've had so far, because I don't ever want to be on my deathbed saying, "Oh, I wish I had done this or that." I intend to LIVE life, not let life live ME. :)

Good Luck! I know exactly what you are going through. You'll be fine. Best wishes
"WHAT THE HE** AM I DOING??! AM I CRAZY??!"

LOL I am finishing up my first semester of pre reqs and to be honest I STILL think that about me!!!!:rotfl: And I have been getting ready for finals, I think a few more choice words in there!!! LOL

Of course, there is the one burning question in my mind, on my time off, will ANYONE know who I am without a book/notebook/study guide in my hand or in front of my face?? I am pretty sure my boyfriend now thinks I have had surgery to LOOK like a chemistry book!!!!

Any way!!! Best of luck to you, and as for the other students being younger, I have found most of them think us older students are pretty cool! (I am 34) In this whole semester I have not encountered one negative reaction from a younger student! (That amazed me as I thought there would be a generation clash)

Congrats and Good Job for getting ready to rock!

I have my last final tomorrow... then only 1 more semester of Pre-reqs! THAT is hard to believe I tell ya!

And yeah I still ask myself that question!!!!!!!! Even tho I absolutely love school, I still sometimes wonder what the heck am I thinking??!! :uhoh3: Really tho, it's been the very best thing I have ever done. I wish I would have done this a long time ago!

Happy Holidays!

MaryRose (a young 45 ! lol) :) :)
