It sounds like you need a hug. :icon_hug: I must say, you definately need a support system when you have a family & are studying nursing. But in all honesty, determination is the key. Either you learn to say NO, or you don't.

I must add, that nursing is much more intense than micro. If you don't have it in you to say NO during a pre-req, what will you do when you have to spend 6 hrs a day studying a body system for lecture, doing a care plan for clinical, researching the patient's illness, while learning the many medications with their classifications & actions, besides practicing the different nursing techniques? Now, throw real life issues into the mix... (Pat on the back for me--for all of us!). I promise you, my "life" has been on hold since starting this journey. I just had to deal w/a life & death situation 1 wk before finals. Where there is a will, there is a way... Also, I leave A LOT in God's hands right now.

I wish you luck w/whatever you choose to do w/your C-. I'm 52 so the 47 thing should NOT be a deterent. Also, there is LOTS of money out there for education so the part-time job should not have to be. You do what it takes to SUCCEED.

I know how frustrating & discouraging this must be for you. But you have worked so hard this far. Possibly THIS wasn't the TIME for you. Maybe you needed this term to learn another lesson--how to say NO! Family crises happen. Don't let those crises get the best of you. Things always happen for a reason...

I have been on this forum for almost 14 mos. It has been great! I am no longer pursing nursing as I received a final grade in Micro of C-. This means I have to retake it and at the age of 47 I just don't have it in me. I gave it my best shot. It required at least 15-25 hours a week and with a father fighting cancer, hand surgery, new part time job because we need the money and taking care of a DH, Active son and our dog it just didn't work.

I advise anyone taking Micro (or A&P) to not fall behind and learn to say NO! Also don't take it at Delta College. I don't know what it's like at other schools in the state but they teach it there like they want you all to become P.H.D's in Microbiology and traveling the world looking for the next epidemiology catastrophe.

Hey! I took all my stuff at Delta and earned my ADN in 2002! And I agree, micro was really tough with Howard, and I heard how "thorough" the other professors were, lol! And I graduated when I was 49, so it can be done, if things get less hectic in your personal life.

Hope things are going better for you...what will you do now?

I'm sorry that you didn't get the grade you needed. I took micro at Macomb CC and it wasn't really bad at all. Of course the professor told us he didn't expect us to learn what graduate students do, so he was selective in which chapters of the text we covered. I have a newfound appreciation for that! Were you pursuing a nursing degree at Delta, or just knocking off some pre-reqs?

U need lots of hugs! And from your post it sounds like u still want to be a nurse but u feel like it's the end of the road cuz of that one grade. If u really want to be a nurse, don't that let that one grade snatch your dreams from u. U can rebound from this. And I think u just need to take a break for a bit and get your bearings. I've met people who had to leave the nursing program for health reasons and the such and came back when they were ready and are RN's!!!!!!!!!!

I just passed my first semester and it was tough with a house to run and kids but it was worth all the hassle! U have to let things go and prioritize your time. I found time mgmt is the key. U have a family to support u so it can be done.

There is lots of free money out there to go to school so if there is a will there is a way no doubt about it. Give yourself some time to regroup and put a plan in action.
