I just spoke with the admissions person at the school I want to attend and he said that all I needed is a biology grade of C or better to get admitted into the program!!!!:monkeydance: I'm also a bit nervous, he said that in the spring they start getting the applications for fall and that they had way more applications than they expected. He said take bio this fall for fall 2008 acceptance but I can't take bio until spring. My DH is taking a class that starts next week and end in September 2 nights a week so I'll have the kids. I wouldn't dare get a sitter, we both work full time so I don't think it would be fair to our kids if we were both gone all day and all night 2 nights a week even if it is for a short time. Besides then when would I have time to study??? This bio class will be the make it or break it deal for me, my acceptance into the nursing program rides on this class, if I don't do well enough then no career change for me . I almost went into nursing many years ago and took a basic EMT class at that time and realized it wasn't for me but I think back then it was a maturity thing for me. I don't think I was ready back then, but now I look back and wish I had stuck it out a little further or even did it 10 yrs ago when I was considering it but chickened out. Now I want it and worry about getting accepted. Ugh, sorry for the ramble.

I understand your fustration. Does your school offer the biology class online or distance education??? I know many of the prereqs for the nursing program were offered online at my school accept for Chemistry. Something to check into, I sure hope that they do. Good luck to you.

My guess is that you must have your pre-req's completed by a certain date. And if you take it in the Fall of this year, you will meet that requirement. But it may be if you wait til the Spring, your semester will not be over prior to the cutoff. I'd look into it a little more to see if there is something you can work out.
Like I said, I am only guessing that may be why he said to take it this Fall. You may have to push it off until Spring of 2009 then as a start date.

Like nursn4me posted, see if there is an online class that you can take. I have 4 kids at home, my hubby is in school in the evenings (4 days) so I took most of my classes online, including my A&P's. Lab was on campus, but I have seen others posting on here that they do labs at home also. Even if you do have to go on campus, if your hubby is only going 2 days a week, that leaves another 3 days for you to go to lab, and posssibly a Saturday. Most labs are only 2 hours long, so surely that isn't too bad. If you want it enough, you will find a way. Good luck~

Check into an online class as suggested or seriously consider a babysitter. Two nights for one semester will not be that big of a deal to them. In fact, you would be teaching them a valuable life lesson in that sometimes we have to do difficult things in order to achieve our dreams. Delayed gratification is not taught to children these days. Maybe plan a special family outing after you complete the course.
Edited to add: My mother went back to school taking her prereqs for nursing school and stopped because she thought her classes 2 nights a week was too much for us. The truth is that we were very proud of her for going back to school, but she quit without asking what we thought. If she would have asked, we would have strongly encouraged her to continue. If they're old enough (I was maybe 7, my brother 10) I would say have a family meeting about it. You might be surprised by what they say.

just wanted to say that whatever happens we'll be pulling for you to do well in that class and get into your program.

I agree with the person above that said that a sitter for a little while will be ok. When my kids were young I worked for a medical collections agency, and worked a split shift two nights a week. Tuesdays and Thursdays I would take them to daycare at 6am, and then my mom would pick them up and keep them until 9pm. I did that for over two years, but its what had to be done to pay the bills. Your situation is at least a short specified time period so I think they will understand. You could also put it off a semester, but thats up to you, and what you think is best for your family. Good luck
