ISU LVN to BSN program California

Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

Published

ISU has two distant learning LVN to BSN programs. One is for California LVNs and the other is for non-California LPN students. While the programs are similar there are some differences.

1. The Calif BON has placed a limit on the amount of nursing classes that Calif ISU LVN to BSN students can take during a semester. Other states have no restrictions and non-Calif students would matriculate through the program and graduate faster than Calif students;

2. California ISU students are also students of Sanoma State University and must pay an extra fee to Sanoma State; ISU issues the diploma but Sanoma State is the qualifying university that will sign the paperwork for the Calif BON;

3. Lastly, TCN has one employee--the Sanoma State liaison--who deals with the paperwork and another person who is responsible for arranging the Calif clinical facilities and getting the paperwork signed.

This thread has been started to address the issues that California ISU LPN to BSN students or potential students are facing. Have questions about the California ISU LVN to BSN program, feel free to share.

Hello Franticoola,

I wanted to find out if you live in CA and if you are having any problems finding clinical sites.

Thanks!

Hello LadyInScrubs,

Yes, I was wondering if your Clinical site issue is resolved? Do you live in the LA area? I do and I am currently working on my pre-reqs for ISU LVN-BSN. I am beginning to get really discouraged. In addition, my friend whom just finished all her pre reqs and has applied to the nursing program got an email that the CA Board of RN is currently reviewing the program and all CA applications will be put on hold until further notice. :confused:

Oh, no. This is not good news. Can you get a copy of that letter and post it. I have repeatedly posted that there were problems with the program and there have been two other people who attacked me for the post. Those people are not students nor had applied to the program, etc--makes one wonder if they are employees of ISU or TCN.

Anyway, if at all possible, see if you can get a copy of the letter and post it for those of us in Calif. As far as me, I am taking non clinical courses at the present so clinical, at this time, is not a problem--but it will be shortly.

Will do... Did you have problems with getting a clinical sites before, I think earlier this year? I emailed ----------- at ISU my concerns and will see if she responds. What really gets to me is that I have already paid so much $$ to TCN and I don't think I can get my money back. I was wondering if you know of anyone that was able to get their money back?

Thank you for the copy of the letter you received. Could you post it here so others on the LPN/LVN to BSN ISU site know the issues? Thanks.

Last I heard -------- retired and there is another person in her shoes. To annswer your questins, I and other students have continually had problems getting clinical placements--and it continues.

Dear Fall 2012 California LPN-BS Track Applicant,

Thank you for applying to the LPN to BS Track nursing program at Indiana State University in

partnership with Sonoma State University. As a California student, I wanted to inform you that we are

currently having a program review with the California Board of Registered Nurses, and therefore have

to place a temporary hold on the application process until this review process has been completed. We

have every reason to believe that this will only take approximately six to eight weeks, at which time we

will resume the admission process into our program for the Fall 2012 semester.

Applicants who have incomplete applications (i.e. supporting documents, nursing pre-

requirements, entrance exams), please continue to work on the items needed and submit to our office

as soon as possible. For those of who have completed the application process, there is no action

required at this time. We will resume the admission process shortly after the program review has been

completed and begin sending out acceptance letters at that time. We will keep you informed as this

process moves forward. If you have any questions, we will be glad to speak to you.

Sincerely,

Oh no this is terrible... I just finished my pre requisites and I am currently studying to challenge the 4 exams to be able to start on spring 2013... Gosh !!!!

If you are studying for the challenge exams, have you applied to the program or paid for the exams?

Lady scrubs I paid for the MHN exam I am no longer going to attend. I was told that the're no refunds. I asked if I could donate the fees to an in need student. I have not gotten any response. I hope everything works out for all of you.

I hate to appear ignorant, but for the life of me, I have no idea what MHN exam is. What is it and who requires it.
