Is it worth it? What are your thoughts?

today I was pleased to find out that my financial aid for uconn was finally evaluated. But I soon realized that I only received $9600 in free money, it may seem like a lot but I still have to pay around $15,000 in loans. I really want to go to this school because I was accepted into the nursing program. If my financial aid looks like this for all four years...i dont know what I'm going to do. Is a $60,000 college debt bad for a future nurse to be. I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to have been selected for this program which only enrolls about 100 student freshmen each year! Its not easy getting into a nursing program on your first try, many people get wait listed please keep that In mind.Thank you :)

(please excuse any spelling/grammar errors)

P.S. I am willing to sacrifice living in "luxury" :) after college. My mother even offered me to stay with her after I graduate so that I can pay off my loan faster.

My mother insisted that after graduation I should live with her.she also mentioned that the only bill she would allow me to pay are my car and cellphone bills ( shes the best mother ever! :D ). if I were to do this then the rest of my money would completely go to my loans. Btw I am a ct resident and a senior in high school.

Congrats on your selection! It sounds like you already have your heart set on it... you are just looking for reassurance :) Only you can decide if $60,000 in loans is worth it. Don't forget to consider what you would do if you got less in financial aid in the following years (not to be a naysayer, just playing devils advocate). However, if money is an issue, have you considered taking your pre-requisites at a community college and transfering to UConn at a later date? You could save a lot of money that way. Best of luck!

I'm glad I live in GA... HOPE Scholarship rocks!

Go for it. :D I think going to a big university right after high school is an experience that will teach you a lot! (And you will have the time of your life.)

If you're in state consider SCSU.. they program has a lot of pre-reqs (11 total whereas UCONN has none as far as I can tell..?) but you would still graduate with a BSN and it's quite a bit cheaper. (UCONN vs SCSU).. Both schools are CCNE accredited as well.

What are some of the pre-reqs?
