Returning to Nursing School, Florida Career College
Hey Everyone, I am in need of a bit of advice. Long story short, I was forced to leave nursing school in April of 2012, three weeks before the semester was over.(My Senior Year, with One Semester left) My hardship was approved, but the college won't let me back in. I attended a very distinguished and reputable nursing program in GA, it has a 100% pass on the NCLEX for each class. I was forced to come to Florida, and have since gotten back on my feet. I have debated whether or not to return to nursing, but all of my life's goals revolved around nursing. Getting into a nursing program is going to be very difficult because of the W's. However, I have looked at several programs in this state. I am going to have to go to a for profit college, and I am not happy with this. But the preregs at other schools, and the cost of out of state tuition doesn't really make local colleges/universities better. All of my preregs will transfer, and the college is going to allow me to take the final of their current class. They will give me credit for my previous nursing experience. I am not gonna take the exam for OB/Pediatrics, or advanced med-surge, as I feel I need an in-depth review of these classes. However, I am gonna do it for fundamentals, psych, and intro to pharm. Florida Career College has an NCLEX pass rate of only 32%, and the dang college is in a shopping center. I feel this is an insult to my intellect, and my transcript. However, it is the fasted and more assured way to finish my ASN. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

NEED NEW PROGRAM! WFs Are Now Ws, No Readmission to Current Program
This past semester, I experienced a personal hardship, that forced me to leave nursing school. Because of my sexuality, I was kicked out of my household, and had to have WFs in my nursing program. Today, I received word that my WFs have been converted to " Withdrawals", and I have been able to salvage my GPA... It is now a 3.26, with all of my first year of nursing school courses calculated with that... However, I was not denied readmission into my schools nursing program. One of my professors quoted, " I do not believe he shall be successful in this, nor any nursing program..." I have taken Fundamentals of Nursing(Aka Intro to Med-Surge) B average, Pharmacology(Two Semester of this Hell), passed first semester with a B and second with a C, Psychiatric Nursing with a B, and Womans Health/L&D with a C... I was finishing Advanced Med-Surge, and Gerontology.... I was in my final year for my associates, in GA. I was supposed to graduated December 7th, 2012. I have reestablished myself here in Miami/Fort Lauderdale Florida. I am originally from Atlanta, and left in April. This is my dream to be a nurse, and to be so close, and have to leave the program 4 weeks before the end of the semester, and 8 months before graduation is killing me. I have done so much over the course of the last 2 1/2 years, and killed myself to make this dream a fruition. Can anyone suggest a nursing school? Is there any school out there, either in South Florida, or GA, or anywhere in the nation that is still taking applications for fall or spring, that would be willing to continue my education? I have applied to schools down here, but they take time to hear from them and coordinate with them. Please, I need other options all over the nation. I do not care where it is!!!! I just want to realize my dream, join Doctors Without Borders, and become the best damn nurse I can be. Anyone, with any suggestions please respond... I have come to far to end it now, even if I have to start completely over... I want to finish this! This is my dream!

Male Nurse Midwife
I think one of the amazing things about nursing is how it changes us. I am a gay male, who never had an interest in children or women. As this semester has progressed in OB nursing, I have come to realize what I think I want to do. I idea of being a male midwife just has such appeal to me... Thoughts? I really have fallen in love with L&D, PP, and Nursery... But I want to be more then a nursery nurse, I want to actively engaged in the pregnancy, and one of my professors is a CNM, and I am fairly certain this is what I want to be...

You know you are a Nursing student when...
When an 18 month relationship, with the only one you have ever loved, falls apart because they say I don't give them the attention they deserve, and they find fulfillment in another man, and then blame the cheating on you not having sex in 3 months because I have to go to sleep at 9 PM, while and awake at 5 am, while their unemployed and playing xbox till 2 am, and I can still manage a 30 hour a week job... I was doing nursing school for US, I told him that the next two years would be hard, but during the summer and breaks we would have each other, and now I am more alone then ever...

Starting in August - scared and nervous!!
Don't worry you'll be fine... Just take a deep breathe, drink a bottle, or 5, of red wine, and you will see once clinicals start that nursing is a beautiful art. Hard, but beautiful, tragic yet splendid, depressing but also rewarding, that that your school would not send someone into a clinical setting who is not ready(I did see one girl get through), learn to stand strong, and learn to be able to pull yourself away from the situation and examine things without hard emotion, and you will excel in nursing school... Also it might help to learn the location of the nearest Starbucks, and start to get on a first name basis with all the staff!

Which is the best way to stay organized with notes, homework, etc.?
Honestly, the only thing I carry to class daily is a laptop... That's how I organize my notes, and then I just do my nursing cards on the laptop as well to study... Binders, writing, and all that organization would drive me mad, when all I have to do is click save!

Hmmmmm Why Do Nursing Students Fail?
They fail because they futilely try to memorize all of the scientific facts, they start studying 5 days before a test, and still miserably fail. Use the nursing process, use Maslow, make nursing diagrams on the using the nursing process for diseases and such. It cut my studying time by 1/4 I study only for a few hours making my notecards in Pages , a day or 2 before the test. And review them the night before, memorization is useless!

Gordon Nursing Program Spring 2011
What are you talking about? I'm well aware you don't have to have them finished when you apply. There are even cases when people in the first session of the nursing program don't have them finished...

Gordon Nursing Program Spring 2011
Hey you sound almost like me. I came to Gordon in the spring of 2010, I did English 1102 and psych 2103, in the summer I did A&P 1 and 2( this was hell), and in the fall I did microbiology 2250, history 2112, and art history to finish my core, I had a few classes that transferred but most were not accepted towards the ASN pre reqs( however I found out they county towards the BSN, so I don't have to take any other classes when I apply for the BSN). My GPA when I applied to the program in July 2010 was 3.26, and my teas on the old score was an 84. I still had not finished my microbiology, history, or art history, and I highly doubted I would get in since I had so many of my core classes left to to( 10 credit hours in total. I was accepted in October of last year. Once I finished all. Of my rereqs my Gordon GPA was a 3.56 after I was accepted. So I think you will have a solid chance, PM if u need help figuring out which professors to take especially for history, micro, and your required humanities. I can highly recommend the ones I had, and I'll give their names.
