I recently completed a 30-level course (my very last prerequisite) and am unsure if I should apply to Grant MacEwan for the Fall 2013 term. I could apply for January 2014 right now (since applications opened this month) but I am really anxious to get back to school, mainly because I'm done all my prereqs and am having a hard time finding a decent job right now. My initial plan was to make money for about a year and hope to get accepted into the Fall 2014 term but like I said, I'm having some issues.
What I'm worried about if I try out for this September is the time crunch - getting everything sorted out by the time I hear back from them (which, I heard, could be months). The idea of starting in January, in the middle of winter, is off-putting to me for various reason that I don't want to get into. Not saying I would never do it, it's just that if I had a preference, I would choose Fall.
Do you think the time span between now and September is "too short" for getting everything prepared, including applying for student loans (assuming I get in, of course)? Do you think it's "too late" to apply for the Fall, given that the progam is competitive? And for those of you who started in January, how did you find it?
Thanks in advance everyone.

If you can apply for Jan 14, does that not mean that Fall 13 intake is closed? I think by mid february, most programs have already accepted their applications for the upcoming fall semester.
My advice - apply, apply, apply. there are so many people competing for so few seats in nursing school, that you will be lucky to get into ANY intake. I don't intend to sound harsh, but the reality is, most people don't have the luxury of choosing when they start nursing school, or to not start at a particular time because it is not their "preference". Apply now, and if you can somehow get in for the fall semester, then accept your seat and figure the logistics out. Nursing school and life as a nurse deals with a lot of time crunches and time management, so I wouldn't let this 6 month time period scare you.

Are they still accepting applications for Fall 2013? I would apply if they are.
I appreciate the responses. I checked MacEwan's website and it says applications for the Fall intake for BScN is still open but I guess I'll find out for sure when I actually go through the application process. And jasn, you're right about preference and time management... I realize that now and can't let those things deter me. I've been making excuses for almost 8 years.

MacEwan gives admission based on first come basis. Although the website says applications are open for fall I doubt there any any seats left this late in the game as they opened in Oct I think. In my opinion I would save that 80$ and apply for January. Like other posters have said you can't be choosy especially when it's that competitive.
I applied for both Fall 2013 and Winter 2014. Novo, that's what I was worried about concerning the Fall intake but I'm just going to apply for whatever term is open/still open, even if it's late and costs me another $70+. Oh well.

Hi I'm new to this website and I had a similar question I was interested in applying for the jan 2014 intake but I haven't yet applied I just finished summer school but my question is what do you think are my chanes of getting in if I apply now and my average is 82 overall
I would say your chances are pretty good but you never know as the applicant cycle is always different. MacEwan basically accepts the first 140 people with an 80%+ average on those highschool courses. I would apply.

Ok thanks I will apply do you know how long it takes to process and is the conditional acceptance date considered the "date" of your application or is it the day you actually send it sorry if this question is confusing I tried calling the school but it's the weekend and I'm kinda interested the answer now

If you applied now you probably wouldn't hear back for at least 2 months I think the applications for Winter 2014 opened in February 2013? As you can see you're at a disadvantage as I'm sure they've received thousands of applications so far. Your application date is the day you have all the documents on your file handed in. They give preference to the first people with 80%+ and with all of their documents handed in.
Oh I see i'll call the school Monday and get their opinion as well but thanks novo this has given me a lot to think about
One last question do you know when they start assessing for final admission?
