Hi,
I am Jos and have done bachelors in nursing and have 1 yr of experience from India as nurse. Came to US on H4 a month ago. I want to take NCLEX exam here in Nebraska state. I approached the counselor in Nerbraks st board of nursing, she said that I require a work visa to write the NCLEX exam. Does any other state impose this ? If this is the case I have to move to IOWA st(few miles away, as we stay in Omaha) to take the exam in IOWA st. Any other options please suggest.
Thank you in advance.
Jos.

All states have requirements to take the NCLEX. Foreign school graduate requirements are discussed extensively in the international forum.

Not heard that a work visa is requirement to sit NCLEX and a quick look at the Nebraska BON website indicates you just need proof of legal permanent residence and as a H4 you have legal permanent residence. However the issue will come changing your status because you will be affected by retrogression if applying for immigrant visa and more so if you was born in India and you may struggle to find a employer willing to go through the process of H1b (you will need a BSN for H1b)
