Wow, is the market horrible for new grads! I graduated in May 2008 with my BSN. Got a job in a CVICU and held on to that for four months until I decided to pursue my MSN on a full-time basis. Now I'm looking to get back into hospital work and can't find a job!!! I am willing to relocate anywhere. PM me if you know of any opportunities. Thanks so much!!! :heartbeat

Lindarn,

Yeah I actually work at Holy Family. It was a few wks ago when they did the freeze. A coworker's brother works at Kootenai and said Monday night at work that they are doing the same now.

Did you have a chance to talk to the other hospitals? They were all hell bent on hiring when I went to the Job Fair last month. There is another was another job fair today at the convention center. I know that the Sherrif's Department has been trying to hire an RN forever, and can't seem to get anyone interested. It is a great state job. You could try there. Hope this helps.

One of the problems with looking at other geographical locations is that you have to get endorsed in the state you are applying to if that state is not part of a nursing compact. I'm from CA which is not part of the nursing compact. And once you do get endorsed, there's the matter of securing the job before you move out there. It's kind of difficult applying to jobs out of state. You can't affordably visit the instutions you'd like to apply to. It would be hard to make interviews. Gone are the days where companies would fly you out for an interview.

Are there really openings for new grads in the DFW Metroplex? Methodist? Presbyterian? UT Southwestern? Baylor? Medical City Dallas? I went to SMU and lived in Dallas for 9 years. I wouldn't mind going back to Dallas, but that's it if I could secure a position within the next 2 weeks. Living arrangements wouldn't be a problem. Otherwise, I'd just hold out for the new grad program at the VA Medical Center in Long Beach starting in June. I haven't heard of hospitals hiring on the spot anymore these days like my friends who got there liceneses 5-10 years ago.

I'd probably go out of the state for 2 years max just to get experience under my belt then come back home and work local or do travel nursing.

Deliverator, there's a new grad program at the VA Long Beach? I went to their website and did not find a listing. Was it already pulled out?

Second that... our facility is for sure. I think because we don't have as many nursing programs to churn out as many grads for the region we are in.

(Edited to add) Plus, we have Cancer Centers and Children Centers opening out in the western part of our city, which opens up new spots, and a new hospital in Bellevue, NE... Omaha is growing!

I got accepted at Creighton and at a school here in northern ca. I decided to stay in Ca and hope the hiring changes by next year... Now after reading this I am not sure... but if the economy doesn't turn around and I also applied for a Nebraska license maybe they would hire me.... Are they picky if you come from out of state?

As I stated in a previous post, Washington State is hiring new grads. There are several hospitals offering new grad internships here, as well as in North Idaho. PM me if you can't find my posts. Hope this helps.
