Well I am in my 4th semester of nursing school and I am taking adult health and maternal child. I am doing fine in maternal child, but I am really struggling in adult health. I study all the time, do NCLEX questions, etc, but it never seems to be enough. my average right now is a 73 and I have 2 more test and a 100 question final that counts 25%. We have to make a 80% to pass. I am really starting to lose confidence in myself. But I want to be a nurse!! My question, is it still possible for me to pass? My study methods are: I listen to the lectures and type everything the instructor says and their example and then I type them out and study it in outline form and I also do NCLEX questions. Notecards does not work for me. With all that being said I am in desperate need of some help!! Any confidence boosters or other study tips will be greatly appreciated!
P.S. why is that I study my tale off and other people people study for 1 or 2 days and make A's on test??

The problem may be that you are overthinking the questions. In my last semester, Med Surg 2 killed me but I still passed. What I did was took the advice of another study and did concept maps on the material. Concept maps are a description of the disorder/ disease, s/s, test to confirm, pt teaching, medications, diet, and etc. I always reviewed the famous test taking tips before the test to make sure. Doing practice questions help if you are reading the rationale . Make sure when you do the questions you are picking out what you understand about the question and go from there. It is possible to pass this class even with the final being worth 25%. The key is making up the points on the last few test that you missed on the first few. If you believe that you can do it you can. Don't give up.

I would also try to get into or setup a study group. I always found them to be helpful because people will think of things that could be on the test that you didn't even study. And then you go sit for the test and the question is there. Also see if the instructor has office hours where you can go over the test and see where you are struggling. Also try to talk to the students that are doing well, ask them what their study habits are, what they are studying, etc. Some people are able to do little studying and retain a lot of information and do well on tests. I guarantee you there is at least one person who is doing well, but study's their butts off for the tests.
Sure it's possible to still pass with 2 more tests and a final, you just need to get good grades on them. Don't get discouraged.

Keep your head up! Some of my class mates and myself will have a review the day of the test. we will either get to school early to do this or eat lunch together. It has helped me. Dont get to discouraged. Good Luck to you!

Stick with your gut on how to study. How do you think you would learn the best? I am in my final semester, and I have been in your exact situation. I finally stopped listening to everyone else, and I did what was best for me......I read. It doesn't help most people....... It helps me. I wish you the best of luck.
