I was curious about scrub nursing so I did some google searches and stumbled onto a med student forum like this one. The med students were railing against nurses and calling them things like "worthless b******"! What's the deal? It never occurred to me that med students would hate nurses or visa versa.
PS. Is anyone a scrub nurse?

I think I may know what forum you're talking about. I stumbled upon it a couple nights ago, too.
One topic was about the med students saying nurses make WAY too much money and don't do enough work, b/c someone found some website that said a Jail nurse from San Francisco makes like $300k+ a year.

I believe it was Hilary Clinton that said nurses make too much money.
Anyway, I was apart of those forums that you guys are talking about. Asked a few questions, immmediately knew Medical school wasn't for me.

Yeah, nothing like jumping to conclusions from one stupid thing you read on the internet. I haven't seen the forum you're talking about, but who needs to? It's just one more place where people who have no idea what nurses do decide that we are worthless and don't deserve respect. Never mind those of us who have stopped new docs from writing orders that could kill pts if they were carried out...

Oops! I thanked your post by mistake when I only wanted to quote it.
Anyway, I remember hearing allegations that Hillary said that, but no one could post a link to its original source.
Here's that chart:
$216,000 of overtime pay? Geez, I feel sorry for that woman. It would be bad enough working in a prison but working that much overtime?
I'd say the person was working 2, 8-hour shifts daily. Because look, that person made twice their salary in overtime. Still, housing in SF is extremely expensive.
By my calculation she is working 49.18 hours of overtime a week. I came up with $56.38 for her starting wage.

Well, I've worked with med students, residents, and MDs who respect nurses and the job we do. I've also worked with plenty who share the attitude that people who go to nursing school aren't smart enough to go to medical school. Even if one isn't smart enough or does not have the financial resources or the desire to attend medical school, a person deserves respect for doing their job conscientiously and well, be it a nurse, the unit secretary, or housekeeper. Otherwise, what value is there to all of us who fall in the lower 95% of human beings?

I wonder if they realize that if it weren't for us, they'd have to actually implement all the stupid things they order...
"I'm sorry, doctor, you can only admit that patient if you're able to stay in the hospital with them to take care of them..."

ORs are notorious for gossip and backstabbing among themselves. Which makes the staff more outspoken when they have to babysit med students who get in their way while they are trying to get their work done. There just is not enough room in the OR for everyone, particularly when there are med students that have to be watched to make sure that they don't contaminate things or knock things over. It's even worse when the doc wants the med student to be actively involved in the surgery and that is against policy.
As far as nurses and med students on the floor....Med students act like they are God when they know very little. They often write ridiculous orders and then get angry when the experienced nurse tries to clarify the order. Or they come back over and over and over during a shift writing one order at a time, often contradicting the orders that they wrote earlier. It is very difficult to take care of pts when you are having to take off orders all day long and have to clarify every one.
I'm sure some med students got their buns chewed by an experienced nurse and instead of taking it in stride as part of a learning experience, they got their tighty whiteys in a wad and decided nurses are evil. Nurses can be evil. They also save the buns of med students, interns, residents, and attendings.
