My main major is nursing , but I am very shy and quiet Also, when teacher tell us to write something, I forget what she says.. and I don't want to make her repeat it 3 times. I have a problem with hearing,, I don't know. Has this happened to anyone? So frustrating. I am not smart at all. I was born to be dumb.. >_

I love doing physical things rather than mental. I really don't know if I can do this. I mean, I do good in college. I usually get straight -A's and B's never below B. Well, I took classes.. like grammar, reading/writing, basic math, algebra one... these were easy. You think I should just keep on and try to study at least 2-3 hours per day? Or too much?

oh , and I don't speak loud enough. They are like " what?!, speak louder " :p

Hi. I do understand your sentiments. I have a sister who is very quiet and shy but she's a nurse. I think you can be a nurse if you really want to. Going for nursing was not easy especially the in-class reports and group discussions. Why don't you try something new everyday. Like, saying "hi" to the person sitting next to you in class. Join study groups, if you must to help you focus and socialize. If you really want to become a nurse, you would try then see how it goes.

I am a pretty quiet and shy person too, but I am finding that I am THRIVING in nursing school. Maybe its just my program, but my self confidence is at an all time high. I am still quiet and my teachers are SHOCKED when I speak up, but I dont really see anything wrong with that. I just dont say anything until I really have something important to say :)

And please dont sell yourself so short by saying that you aren't smart enough or were born to be dumb. If you REALLY think that, you will not be successful. That type of thing is a total self-fulfilling prophecy. Don't feel bad about asking an instructor to repeat something. They get paid to make sure you are learning.

You get A's and B's all the time and you call yourself "dumb" OMG some people would love to be in your shoes. If you can't hear your instructor get a recorder or something and listen to it on your computer ( it's helpful). I used to be one of those students that I would never ask questions in class, I prefered to look things up instead of asking a "stupid question." Now, I am different. I realized that the best way to learn and prepare for the test is to ask questions ( who cares if some people find it stupid question, I am sure that they have questions that I find stupid but why judge, we are all there to learn.) If you are shy to speak up in class go and talk to your professor one on one.Keep studying don't stop........it's okay if people call you geek today, tomorrow some of your classmates might call you boss. :)Good luck to you.

In Biology I do lab every Thursday and I am so quiet. I think they don't let me do the experiment, so I just watch.

I will try to ask question or something when I don't understand. At my group, always the same person does the experiment. Thanks for understanding my sentiments. Life's sucks at the moment.

Thanks for that! I am going to start recording with my ipod nano. However, I am about 8-10 feet away from her.

Is that enough? I don't want to leave my group and sit in front because they will be like, " why did he leave us!, was he too cool for us, because he's always quiet'"

Thank you all! You guys are inspiring. I really aspire to become a nurse.

Also, I have joined a nursing club which I don't know when it starts, I think that I will meet some people there. My problem is that I don't speak loud enough.. people are always like " what?" " sorry I didn't hear you, what?" That's my weakness. My strength is writing. I love to write essay and I am trying to learn more. Nowadays my mind has been wandering off while studying because I had so many things in my mind: financial aids, job, permit for license.

Once I start A & P 1-2 and Chemistry 1-2, I will try to sit near the teacher to record. And I will try my best because I need good grades for those classes so that Umass university can accept me for the BSN nursing degree. I am a weak student to go to UMass, that's what she said because I haven't taken those classes.

I am going to be in school for 7-8 years if everything goes well. I know it will be worth it at the end.. earning a lot of money, feeling great after helping a patient, learning new things from patients, supporting them... etc etc.

I place my recorder on the instructor's desk..try it, I am sure s/he won't mind.

Lol, good idea. I am going to ask her.

Have you ever had your hearing checked? It's possible you could have a hearing impairment. If you were getting As & Bs, you obviously aren't dumb. Nursing classes are very tough, even for the best students!

Actually, I can hear, but ... never mind. ha ha.

Thanks! I am studying biology right now and I am getting it. I am trying to focus on Biology more than my other classes. I am taking Algebra 1 ( Very easy! I got a 95,95, and a 110. ^^ ) English composition ( lots of essay which I love! I like writing, but lots of reading. ) I like to read , but the book is boring :(. The nursing assistant program starts in November, it's credit. I plan to take chemistry next semester I can go on to college chemistry one, but I should take intro to chemistry before I take that one. Once I take college chemistry one, I will try my best because I need good grades.

I am quiet and shy person. I get very nervous easily and do not feel competent at all. This causes me to ramble and divulge personal information to often. I am surviving nursing school by the skin of my teeth. The clinical instructor took an instant dislike to me. The one piece of advice that I will give you is never give up and never call yourself dumb. I have learned to many people will pick up on your insecurities and make things worse for you. It is shark with blood infested waters mentality. Your grades show you are very intelligent. It might help to talk to a counselor on how to communicate effectively. Nursing school has many cliques that are formed and the politics are a nightmare. I would honestly say focus on your classwork, skills, and care plans. Do not worry what others think of you. The thing of utmost importance is how you see yourself. When we feel good about ourselves, it shows. Everyone notices when a person is confident and it will not matter whether you are shy or not.
