Is it ok to wear nail polish to a interview?

Published

I know nail polish is usually a no-no at work. I work part time in psych and my facility allows nail polish. I have been taking advantage of this because a proposal is coming in the near future (don't know when) so I am keeping my nails and hands nice at all times.

Is it ok to wear a light colored pink almost nude nail polish to a job interview (psych)? I can always take it off then redo my nails, but figured if I can save myself some time I would. What does everyone think?

I don't see a problem for an interview but my hospital is very strict about no polish unless it is clear, no acrylics, no shellac, and must be trimmed neatly.

I wanted to say thank you to everyone who responded! I am happy to hear it is ok to wear polish to a interview. I think it must have been school that drilled it into my head that nail polish is never ever ok. I just got my interview outfit ready for the morning and did my research about the company. I'm going to do my nails next : )

If think it is fine to have nail polish on in an interview and on the job with some limitations:

1. No fake nails

2. Make sure your nails are groomed nicely

3. The polish is not a loud color, but one that muted and neutral.

I went to get the gel nail polish on to celebrate taking the NCLEX and I purposefully picked a neutral pale pink color in case I got an interview. Well, later that night I got a call for an interview. Phew, glad I didn't go with black or something else that would have been more fun.

I was taking interviews right around the time that I graduated with my BSN and had painted my nails for my graduation...I actually had purple polish on when I interviewed for my current job!! My interviewer (now boss) asked my if I would still want the job if I couldn't keep my purple polish! I said of course, turns out the no polish/no artificial nail policy is a deal breaker for some.

Anyway, I do not recommend purple nail polish. But a nice pink color looks professional! :)

I start a new job Tuesday. I am going later today to get a light ballerina pink no chip!!! :)
