Is nursing for me????????????????

Nurses General Nursing

Published

I have been a nurse for 9 months now, and my heart still races every night before I go to work. It almost makes me sick to my stomach I am so nervous. It come in sperts. Sometimes I am okay, but most times I am so scared right before I go to work. However when I get to work and start working I am okay. Is this normal? It makes me want to quit nursing all together or at least my speacialty (telemetry) and go to somthing less critical. I lay in bed after work and rack my brian about everything I did at work and if I did it right and am I going to get in trouble tomorrow when I go back. So my question is does it get easier? Is nursing really for me if I feel like this? :uhoh21: :uhoh21: :uhoh21:

tele can be difficult. I work the same floor...Yes I feel sick to my stomach when I get off the elevator. I find that If I say a PRAYER and get to work 30 mins early, I am less stressed.........So far, its been working for me!!!

Im sending you positive thoughts******** :)

I work tele too, have been since I graduated from nursing school. I am so GLAD someone else has this same problem! It has gradually gone away, but not until I had been a nurse at least a yr. I remember when I first graduated, when I got to work and started organizing pt information my hands shook as though I had Parkinson's! I was so afraid someone would notice. You will become more confident with time, you just realize what a position of importance and responsibility you are in. Keep up the good work!

I've worked tele on a sdu for last 8 years. I felt the same way for such a long time, one day it lifted!i enjoy my job, the unit i work is more friendly, more team orriented and maybe i have confidence in my abilities i did not have when i started out. I've learned the more i educate myself by reading tele books ect, the better i feel.

advice

you made it this far- there are so many options- you can also get a job in the pharmacetical field-clinical trials, school nurse, private duty...

hang in there.
