  1. Hello......I am moving to WA in Jan from CA. I was wondering what the ratios of pts to nurses are up there. Here in CA on tele floors we can have no more than 5pts to 1 nurse. I am pretty sure that there are no such laws in WA. Anyone have any input from where they work? PS I will be working MS floors.:uhoh21:
  2. I have been a nurse for 9 months now, and my heart still races every night before I go to work. It almost makes me sick to my stomach I am so nervous. It come in sperts. Sometimes I am okay, but most times I am so scared right before I go to work. However when I get to work and start working I am okay. Is this normal? It makes me want to quit nursing all together or at least my speacialty (telemetry) and go to somthing less critical. I lay in bed after work and rack my brian about everything I did at work and if I did it right and am I going to get in trouble tomorrow when I go back. So my question is does it get easier? Is nursing really for me if I feel like this? :uhoh21: :uhoh21: :uhoh21:

Well, I have been a nurse for 8 months. Everything was going fine until a couple weeks ago when I started making stupid, careless mistakes. The other night I was going through my orders and looked over and order for a procedure that had not been entered in the computer by day shift, so it was on my shoulders. The pt did get the procedure done, no problem, but I just feel soooooooo bad, how could I have overlooked it.???? Then one night I overlooked that the day shift had not started a 24 hr urine collection at 6 am that morning. UGGHHHH...
  4. :uhoh21: I have been a nurse for 7 months now and was just wondering if it ever gets easier? When I first started out on my own I was terrified. I work on a tele floor and would watch the monitors all night in hopes that no one would go into vfib or somthing else. Now I took ACLS and am more confident, but still worry alot. Is this a normal process? And does it ever go away?
  5. Well thats just stupid! Dont sweat it! Keep your head up and just be SUPER careful with all that you do! When I was in my 3rd semester in OB my pt asked me for some asparin and I went into the room and she was on the phone so I set it down and turned around to walk out, (and did) and then my instructor wrote me up the next day. Now I never leave the room untill the pt swallows the pills. Just learn from your mistakes and you will be fine.
  6. I think that you should base it on your relationship; how strong it is and what your future plans are with him. Also look into hospitals in that area, and apply to them and interview with them. I wouldnt move until I had a job set up already, but depending on where you are you may not have a problem at all. Also, if you wait another 4 months, or until you have a year exp., you can apply for a travling position.
  7. YES!!!!!!!!!! This helps. I am a new grad (well a nurse of 7 months) and I am usually so carefull with what I do. I have been worring about this for days! I just dont want to get written up or get my liscence taken away.
  8. I was just concerned because I know your not suppossed to give a combo of heparin and lovenox, or coumadin........basically any combo of blood thinners.

  10. No, the protocol is flushing with heparin, but my concern is that the pt was getting lovenox inj. and I flushed their ports with heparin.

  12. My hospital has a protocol to flush triple lumen caths with 2.5cc of heparin, divided among three ports. So I followed the protocol and flushed. Then the next night I was off and laying in bed and remembered that the pt was switched from heparin to lovenox that previous morning. I have not been to work since and am wondering if this would be a problem. Any advice????
