Is Nursing For Me?

Published

I am currently a Second Degree BSN student. This is an accelerated program. This semester has been very rough for me. I've been very stressed because of my poor exam grades. Sometimes I change answers and other times its me not being confident in my answer. I have tried studying with classmates, and getting advice on study tips. Its not working for me and Im starting to question if this is the career choice for me. I dont want to be a Nurse just getting by. I planned on taking the next semester off to get my mind right.

During my time off, what should I focus on? Can someone suggest any study tips that allows me to retain and apply the information?

Have you tried working as a CNA or tech? If you are in there doing the dirty work, and getting a glimpse into what nurses do, then you will have a better idea of whether it is something you REALLY want to do. If you know that you really want it, then you can figure out a way to do better in school. On the other hand, if you don't really like what you see in the world of nursing, then you know it won't be worth all the stress that comes with nursing school.

In the meantime, the exams are really hard. Try using some NCLEX review books and study what you learn in class using those questions. It will help you get used to those sort of exams. I know my professors tell us to NEVER change your answers, so maybe that would help you. Maybe group study is not your thing. I personally cannot study with a group at all. Just some suggestions :) .
