Is it normal to have not retained any information in nursing school

Published

I'm studying the NCLEX and realized that I retained close to nothing in regards to the courses that are related to nursing like anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, health assessment. During school, I also got really bad marks in those subjects. Information seem to go in one ear and out the other. Has anyone been in similar situation? I'm basically starting from complete scratch when studying the NCLEX.

No, it's not normal to retain nothing. But, I suspect you retained more than you think you did... I remember feeling like I knew nothing when studying. Focus on your weaker areas and keep doing questions! Good luck :)

It's normal to think you didn't retain anything, but I'm willing to bet the roots of your potential nursing knowledge are in their somewhere.

It's not unusual for a new grad to finish nursing school feeling like they know less than when they started, at that's sort of the point, in a way it's more about teaching you what you don't know, since it's nurses that don't know what it is they don't know that are the most dangerous as new grads.

Really, nursing school creates the structure where all the pieces that are now floating randomly in your head can fall into the right places once you actually start nursing.

No worries ....NCLEX had nothing to do with anything I learned in school. It was just weird, random questions (or at least, seemed that way).
