Is this too many classes???

Published

I have Math 056(below 101, 6 hours a week class), Eng 101, Psych 100 in the summer. I am at 12 credits right now. I am thinking about adding a Bio 101 class, but would that become too much?:o

It depends. Are you working? If so, full time? if so, can you study at work?

Do you have kids? If so, do you have someone to watch the kids?

I don't think another class would be too much. I was always taking between 15 and 18 credits per term and I never felt like it was too much to handle.

I do have two kids and a hubby. And I do work but its part time and I was planning on doing the 11-7 shift to free up my days. I only work 3 days a week.

This is very individual. Only you can decide. When I first began as a student, I felt overwhelmed with 12 credits. A couple years in, I was routinely taking 18-20 credits per semester with more ease than I did 12 credits.

You will see wildly varying answers to this question, but only you know your strengths/weaknesses, and tolerance, etc. When in doubt, go easy on your schedule, IMO.

Psy100 and Eng 101 should be three credits each. Is Math 56 six credits? 6 hours is a lot for a class, is it Mon-Fri? Be advised Ma56 is not likely transferable to a Uni, but it may be needed just to take a higher level transferable math. Don't feel bad though, I started at math 35 then 45 then 65 and finally Math 116 all the way to Math 244 Calculus. P.S. I still stink at math :)

I would say your current course load will be more than enough work and I would suggest you do not take on anymore classes until you have a good idea at what your pain threshold is for schoolwork.

Math will require many study hours if your weak at it. English will have you banging out about 5000 words for the semester along with paper research and no telling with psy teachers as those classes have a mind of their own :)

Can I ask, are you going for a BS or AS degree?

Good luck

Yes the MAT 56 is six non transferable credits and I do need it to move to a higher math. I am going for my BSN. I wanted to take BIO because I was afraid that the seats in the fall would fill up too quickly, whereas the summer may have more seats available.

intro classes like those are usually not very difficult. professors don't expect a lot (this is just in my personal experience) so i think you should be fine to add another 100 level class :)

This is not always the case and student workload mileage may vary from teacher to teacher. It is a good idea to look up your future professors on http://www.ratemyprofessors.com/ I have found RMP to be a good indicator of what you can expect in a class.

Don't overload yourself or you might get discouraged right off the starting gate. Start slow and judge your ability to handle more based on this semester.

Here is a tip. In many schools, high GPA students (Even 1 or 2 semester students) get a day or two earlier registration so if you score well in those 3 classes you may get a earlier registration the following semester.

At my school, summer term is 8 weeks instead of the 16 fall and spring terms have. Figure your work load for those 8 weeks by doubling the credits. Very few people can handle 24 credits much less 30 plus a job (even a part time job) and kids.

Your GPA is VERY important when it comes to getting into getting into a nursing program.

So for that reason alone, I think you should stick with the 12 credits that you have and knock those out of the way with a 4.0 for the term! Its better to be safe than sorry. Later on you can judge if you were able to handle more.

I also agree with the poster who recommended rateyourprofessor, this website has been a lifesaver for me. I struggle with math so I arrange my schedule around so that I could have the best rated one in order to ensure that I can still get an A with hard work. The teacher makes all the difference in a subject that you don't have the easiest time at.

Also for fall term....get the date and time that you are able to sign up for fall classes and log on the second you are able to. Have your schedule figured out before the due date so you can quickly sign up. My friends think I'm obsessive but I've never not been able to get a class I wanted so waking up at 12:01am in the middle of the week is worth it for me. :lol2:

Good luck!
