Is an LNA the same as an LPN???

Updated:   Published

Someone told me that LNA's and LPN's are the same thing is that true???

I never heard of the title "Licensed Nursing Assistant", but with the name of "nursing assistant" included in the title, I would say that it would not be similar to LPN. Also, from my understanding, nursing assistants would be certified, not licensed.

Nursing assistants are licensed rather than certified in New Hampshire and Vermont. There may be other states, but those are the only two I know of.

Specializes in UR/PA, Hematology/Oncology, Med Surg, Psych.

Basically sounds like a CNA. The definition stated they work under the supervision of a RN or LPN.

Specializes in Community Health, Med-Surg, Home Health.

It is so interesting how certification and licensing changes from state to state. Thanks for the clarification.
