Is it me or is hiring at Kaiser Permanente a joke?

I interviewed a bit ago for a job that I thought may be a shoe in.

I was notified via manager that she wanted to hire me! But has to go through HR and check my references.

I was told I'd hear from HR in a day, they are desperate.

I NEVER got a call. I called the hiring manager who was MIFFED to say the least. She was very adamant that they should of called.

She asked me to follow up with HR for the rest of document.

I never heard from HR, it's been 5 days after interview. I called today and was asked

"were you directed to call me?" .. Yes.. ? I was.

I was told that they will get back to me regarding checking my reference and it can take..

READY?? 2-4 weeks.

Are you frigging kidding me? I laughed when the HR person told me that. I apologized, but I said, I am seeking employement at several locations.. I don't know how to proceed if this is the standard.

IS KAISER JUST A FLIPPING JOKE?

:jester: I feel like it is. How in the heck do you get hired?? No wonder they have the same jobs listed for months at a time online. Now , I know why. Nobody can get in.

In contrast on the reference contact issue, I have been told more than once that it was only an after the fact formality, completed after hire so it can be proved to have been completed.

Consider yourself lucky that they did not hire you. There are better companies out there and I wouldn't take my dog to a Kaiser facility.

Does it take a long time to get a a response after completing applications online for Kaiser?

I'm sorry I'm confused, if a manager told you she'd hire you, that's completely out of her hands as it's union and has to go through internal job postings first, then external IF no internal applicant applies and accepts it. On top of that, it goes by seniority which also has an order of "who's first" to it.

I've been with kaiser for almost 6 years as an on-call LVN, got my RN last December, and still am trying to transfer to an RN position. I don't think it's really a thing to be an external applicant and just get handed a position. Unless of course it's a non-union position and then I don't think posting it to the internal board matters, then again I'd be surprised if not.

some of these comments are people thinking they should've been handed a job they wanted, when really there are people (some with decades of service) at Kaiser who may want (and deserve) that very position.

I know this is old, just had to comment for anyone who ends up here via Google like me and is reading this and may think it's something that happens often, it doesn't and you'd have a ton of union grievances if an external applicant got a job over someone currently with Kaiser.

I see some of the posts on this thread are relatively new so I thought I would let everyone know my experience thus far with Kaiser. I applied for an outpatient position in May, was interviewed about a month later. Was told it would be 10 days before a decision was made however I received a call from HR 3 days after the interview w/a tentative job offer. The HR person was extremely detailed in what the next steps would be. Within a few hours all the emails she said I would receive and need to respond to I got. I completed all the online document requests (vaccine history, titers), I had the drug test done locally and my I-9 verified afterwards.  At this point I am waiting for HR to get back in touch and let me know if/when I will need to have additional lab work done for any reason and if they will have me complete a wellness physical. My biggest concern is the reference checks. I worked for two employers in the past 10 years the most consistently and provided the information. My concern is the people I worked with are no longer at the companies and I have no idea where they went or how to get in touch w/them. This is the only part of the process I am afraid is going to hang me up on getting started. The offer letter specifically states everything is tentative until the pre hire items are done. The pay is phenomenal, they provide the scrubs, any/all training I will need and though I was not looking for a M-F type deal the pay coupled with the smaller size of the clinic and location will make it worth it. IF everything falls into place. I know they are union but I don't know if joining the union is mandatory.

I just want to tell those who are wanting to work for Kaiser to hang in there. Everything I have read and everyone I talk to who works for them says it's a great company once you get your foot in the door. I feel blessed to this point that my journey to this point w/them has gone smoothly. Maybe it's just the HR person I have assigned to me but she is very professional and consistent in doing what she says she will. But the process is still nerve wracking right now.

While I am still hoping this position rolls out, I am interviewing with other places and where I am working part time has a FT position opening up so I may just end up moving into that. I have heard ZIP from HR even though I have attempted to reach them. The background checks are outsourced to another company who, according to the customer service rep I spoke with there, are not "allowed" to tell Kaiser candidates where their background check status stands. Well, I cannot "allow" my bills to go unpaid while I wait for a company who has offered a job then basically ghosted for over a month to decide if I'm worthy.

For all the b#$%^ing HR and companies do about not being able to hire people, they sure aren't doing anything to help their cause by treating candidates like they do..

I'm not a nurse, but I spent 6 mos and interviewed 4 separate times at Kaiser for an dept assistant position. I was told by the initial manager he could assure me bo matter what I'd end up somewhere. In total I wasted 10 mos on this process...and he left his position for another job with another hospital without notice.  All that time wasted. They just dropped me. Since then I've spent 3 years trying. It's ridiculous no matter what position you're after.
