Did you apply through any residency programs? Do you have any previous experience? Hope you start to hear back soon. I graduate in the summer with my BSN and will look to apply in those areas also. I currently live in VA but will relocate to that area to be closer to family.

It is very difficult to get a job as a new nurse in Philly without knowing someone in a hospital already. When I graduated, it took the people who didn't know someone 4-8 months to find a job. A handful of people ended up at nursing homes or rehabs until they got experience and a handful ended up at other area hospitals to get experience until they could re-apply at a more desirable hospital.

I wish you both luck in your search!

I submitted about 25 applications and only got one interview, and got hired. But not in Philadelphia. In a town way north.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Emergency, Trauma.

It took me about 6 months to find a position; by the time I started, I was 8 months removed from graduation.

I applied everywhere; I went on job fairs and was able to have a recruiter tweak my resume; I filled out at least 200 applications.

Even the application and interview process can takes weeks or months; when I accepted my current job, it took at least 2 months to accept the job, fill out the information, and then start.

It was very hard for me to find a job anywhere in PA. You had to either know someone or work as a PCT/CNA to get hired. I couldn't even get a PCT job in school. I moved to a state in the southwest, USA, in hopes to gain some experience and then get a job in PA. I know of some people who successfully did that. Turns out I didn't want to go back to PA! I am grateful that there are places out there that are willing to hire news grads without having any ties.

If you are adventurous and willing, try looking outside of PA. I didn't have children at the time so it was a fairly easy move for me.

I know some new grads that were hired at Reading (which you have already applied to).
