I have had my License since 1978, I remember a few years after that they would grandfather LVN's up to RN's, or challenge the boards. Do they still have programs that take a year to bump you from an LVN to RN around ?? I live in Southern Cali. and just moved here and am clueless... HA! Thank you for anyone who can advise me.

Sorry, but no. Grandfathering is out and has been for quite sometime. California has a 30 unit plan, but it is only accepted there, and if you ever decide to move, it will not give you the RN lciense to practice in any other state.

MY MOM HAS BEEN A NURSE SINCE I WAS BORN AROUND 1979. SHE HAD SOME FRIENDS WHO WERE LPNS SHE IS A RN, AND THEY TOOK SOME KIND OF CHALLENGE TEST AND BECAME RN IN AS LITTLE AS 6 MONTHS I'M NOT REAL SURE ABOUT BUT CALL THE BOARD OF NURSING AN AS THEM. I LIVE IS MISSISSIPPI... AND THE LPN-RN PROGRAM ONLY TAKES A YEAR , AND I'M PRETTY SURE YOU WILL BREEZE THRU THAT... :) :)

I'm in PA. They don't grandfather here or let you challenge the boards. However, many schools offer a bridge program that's two or two and a half semesters. At the school where I graduated from LPNs take a bridge course over the summer and then do only the last two semesters of the RN program. Then, of course, they have to take round two of the NCLEX.
