Is it good idea to let interviewer know that you already have an offer?

Hi everyone! I am 6 months young RN and I had an interview at another hospital in bigger city I wanted to move into. I took an interview and offered a position at the medsurg unit. Then next, I get a call to come in for interview, and this hospital is also in the big city where I want to go.

Now I prefer this second hospital (which I haven't had the interview yet), but when I go talk to the interviewer, is it a good idea to let them know cautiously that I got an offer at another hospital to allow them to consider faster hiring process/decision?

Yeah I would use the job offer to later negotiate pay. "Well hospital X is offering me to pay $xx dollars an hour."

Depends on how bad (or not) they need her services. Otherwise, hospital X would have her.

lol at yal! this is why I love talking to seasoned peeps of society.

Well, funny it will be but the second hospital actually pays more. The HR persons that directed me to the interview said "by the way, this is how much we are paying and here are the differentials", and their pay is stronger than the first hospital. Now I know the second interview is for observation unit, which compared to medsurg, might be not as favorable in getting experience? I don't know; I work at medsurg right now and I would love to do something else that for sure.

Sounds like a personal decision. Medsurg is valuable experience, though I hate it so and could never work it myself. BUT if you NEED the higher pay then go with the latter.

mamacita, I remember you are the one who gave me an interview tip while back; I personally thank you for that. Anyways, I hear you! I really dislike medsurg primarily because of pca works I am demanded to do, breaking backs, etc (although this might differ from unit to unit), and I am just tired of medsurg in general. i think obs would be more relaxed and easy going than taking care of 5-6 pts nursing home-like pts and doing lots of pca stuff...

I totally understand. No offense to medsurg nurses out there...but I feel like, working on MS, i'm a professional pillow fluffer. I feel like all the patients are walking and talking, and if you can do all of that for more than a day, you need to GO. Lol. I think I just need to be an ER nurse or something haha.

Goodness. --I want to work on your med/surg floor. Our patients are an interesting mix from older teenagers to over 100 yr olds. Definitely not a professional pillow fluffier here

ya again units differ individually. my unit is MS tele, so sometimes we get people who can survive outside hospital, but frequently, we get people with active MI, arrythmia, critical labs, etc and our hands are reaching for the phone, ready to write down orders, we work quick man lol. I know I got some serious experience working at my MS tele, but it's time to move on thank God
