Is ECPI's RN program looked down upon? Looking for input.

I am currently considering enrolling in ECPI's (Manassas campus--brand new rn program) Registered Nursing program. I am tired of waiting around at community colleges to get in, despite having a great GPA.

So my questions are, does your employer employ ECPI grades? Is it looked down on because it is a for profit school/trade school? Any thoughts/experiences are welcome.

I feel as if this program may be harder than the other local ADN programs because it is extremely fast paced, and is not a just walk in, apply, and get in (like everyone seems to think) program.

I just want to get all my facts straight before I make the plunge.

I already have a BA, so I am not going to go on and get my BSN. I will be looking into an RN to MSN bridge in a few years. The student loans I had to take out were very high, so I will definitely be looking for a cheaper program next time. But for my entry into nursing, going to MCI was worth it for me.

If you have a chance, talk to some nurses in your area who see different programs come through their floors. They will tell you straight which programs have a bad reputation.

I am a student at ECPI in Manassas, I'm in the first cohort of RN students. If I could go back now, I would never have gone to this institution. You do not get what you pay for. In my opinion, they are disorganized and unprofessional. We never have a correct schedule, our instructors get hired at the last minute and the teachers they hire are substandard. Many times myself and other students have gone to the administration to raise our concerns and they seemingly don't care or are rude. The nursing director cannot make decisions and the campus president is very rude and difficult to deal with. I would have changed schools by now, but I have put in too much time here and the credits are non-transferable. They are also very unforgiving when it comes to missing a day of class for a doctor appointment or a family emergency. I chose this school because I was tired of waiting to get into NOVA, but in retrospect I should have just continued waiting or found a different program.

Don't know about Manassas but I did graduate from the Newport News ECPI/MCI location. I will warn you, there was a LOT of crap to deal with because, from talking to staff at times, it becomes apparent that they are VERRRYY for-profit and pass a LOT of nurses through that had failed classes and, according to policy, should have never graduated. End the end, they are about money. BUT if you work hard and pass through honestly, and when on clinicals, do your very best to show clinical sites that you are a top 10% nurse, you shouldn't have an issue. I found a job with Sentara about a month after passing my boards. And I got hired on a critical care floor...so I don't think ECPI/MCI grads are immediately barred from employment or anything like that.

One of my best friends graduated with his RN from the ECPI/MCI location in Newport News. He earned his BSN a year after graduating and is now currently enrolled in a nurse practitioner program. He has never once been looked down upon or ever questioned about his education from there. Like Nursing_Mamacita said, work hard and do your very best when at clinical sites and you shouldn’t have an issue!

So sorry this is so late but I'm enjoying it for the simple fact of learning everything, but as far as the school itself, they are very disorganized. No i would not do this program again if I could choose to, but i was tired of waiting and really want to get into the field. It's going by really fast and it's pretty intense but Im really focused and I stay away from al the gossip and drama that seems to happen here. Another thing that kind of sucks is that this school never closes for inclement weather. I do plan on immediately getting my bsn either here or another school in the area.

I'm looking to start the RN program Jan/2016 @ the Manassas campus. I would like to hear feedback from students/graduates of the program. How was the clinical rotation, class hours/days, and your overall experience. Thank you !
