Is it easier to get into Nursing Program out of state?

Hello!

Since tuition would be higher for out-of-state students, would acceptance rate be higher if you are going out of state? I'm from CA, and I was considering this option in case my gpa is below a 3.4....

Also, how low can your gpa get before most nursing programs do not accept you? And if it is low, can you make it up by doing exceptionally well on the TEAS exam?

When schools do have preferences they give it to their residents. This is because the residents are residing in the state and paying their taxes, which helps fund the school. It depends on the nursing program as far as what prereqs, gpa, and test scores are needed to get in. Some are easier to get in than others. What is your gpa? How many classes do you have left? Maybe you can do good on the remaining classes to raise it and have a better shot at getting in.

Every nursing program is different. In the interest of being fair, my college ranks certain courses completed and the HESI as "quality points." A = 3 points, B = 2 points, C = 1 point. The minimum GPA is 2.5. The top 100 applicants get into the program. I did not make the program last year. I had my prereq courses, there was just too much competition. I just got my acceptance letter yesterday. I have all my corequisites done now and will likely qualify for the accelerated option. In the end, each program is different.
