Hi all, My family and I are just starting the long process to immigrate to Canada, likely Ontario however looking at other provinces in the meantime.
I have been a UK RN for 8 years, I was diploma trained however did a top course (2 years part time) which gave me the title of BSc honours nursing practice. I am aware that I will still have hours to make up once in Canada however I am wondering if my top up degree will be recognised the same as if I just did the BSc nursing at university instead of the diploma?
Would hate get there and have to top up my diploma again with a Canadian Nursing degree course, however if needs must!
thankyou.
Mods please move to international nursing if deemed more appropriate.

The only way to find out the answer to that will be to apply to the CNO( if you are looking at Ontario) and see what they say. No one can predict what their assessment will be. Are you aware that the job market for nurses is not very good at the moment?
Thankyou Lorraine, just thought I would ask incase anyone has completed a similar top up degree. yes I am aware the job market isn't great, seems to the same worldwide at the moment. My husband and I have arranged a recce for ontario in August and will then apply for our visa and then for CNO registration and will not move over until the assessment is complete and I have to move over to make up hours/complete bridging course if needed, so we are now looking at a move over of around end of 2016 start of 2017, fingers crossed things may have improved jobs wise by then but if not I am willing to take the risk.
Thankyou again.
Best of luck and I hope you enjoy your stay in August. What part of Canada are you going to visit?
Thankyou, we have just in the last couple days made up a mock itinerary, we have 18 full days and plan on visiting areas from Niagara on the lake to as far up as kingston and surrounding areas (seems to be appealing to me alot) we have decided not to take the kids 8 and 4 as we are not planning on treating it as a holiday, there will be a lot of driving and want the possibility of last minute motel stop overs if needed and don't feel the kids will handle that well, I'm hating the thought of not taking them with me, never been away from them before but my parents are taking them on a proper holiday so I'm sure they won't miss me as much as I will them!
Well that sounds like a good plan. That area of Ontario is very pretty.
