Is it appropriate to "show off" that you are a Nurse on social media?

Nurses General Nursing

I have friends who are Nurses and friends who are Student Nurses.

Student Nurses:

I see them always posting on their story either IG or SC, about the medications they learned that day, them being able do a health assessment showing off their stethoscope, showing their skills all through social media.

Friends that are Nurses:

they always posting stories of themselves in full PPE at work obviously not showing other staff or their workplace due to confidentiality, showing off that they are working night shifts and stuff etc...

I may be exaggerating, but I always thought of this career as very rewarding being able to impact peoples lives in a positive non religious way. I never thought or have shown off on social media for privacy reasons, and to always respect the profession. I see nowadays people in my generation using Nursing as a way to glorify themselves and such.

There is an ICU nurse on Tik Tok; her handle is ReesesRN.  She makes awesome videos, some which show other nurse a brainsheet she uses fo keeping track of IV drips going to different ports, especially when not all meds are compatible.

She uses her Tik Tok for good and I am glad. It boils down to HOW you use it...your intent.

Thanks for sharing this. I agree with you, intent is very important.

I shared a picture of me and my work friend in our Covid gear at the beginning of Covid.  I’m friends with all of my coworkers on social media and I share funny memes I see.  My social media is very locked to down to anyone outside of my circle.  I am not searchable on Google or social media.

I don’t see the issue.  Everyone that knows me knows I’m a nurse.  I’m not friends with strangers on social media.

There is no such thing as a “locked down” social media profile. I certainly hope you know that. From a legal standpoint, I can assure you two things:

1. Everything is discoverable and will be discovered. Nothing online is off limits not difficult to find.

2 I have witnessed RN’s face termination as well as the inability to be hired as a result of their social media profiles. Human Resources will always look to social media sites to look through when considering an applicant.

There’s no way you can have privacy when on a social media platform. Just remember that.

Sigh.  You are going to quote me from 5 months ago.  But I will respond.  Yes, I’m locked down.  I regularly search myself on Google to see how discoverable I am.  I’m locked down even with my credit.  While I know and understand that things are eventually discoverable if somebody wants to put enough time, money, and effort, it’s not easy.

I literally have zero to worry about because me posting a pic of me and my friend at work is not an issue.  Name badges are not shown, not in any pt areas, nor do I divulge any information.

So you don’t need to come in here and scold me on a post from September of last year.

LovingLife - I politely differ with you re your idea 'of safe lock down' security. Dang! If the Russians and Chinese can hack into our best-est military and governmental sites, how secure do you truly believe you are????

And then all those high-school & college computer wizs whose sole life ambition is just to surf & crash into folk's personal info? Why do you think we all have cyber-security programs on our computers???

I hope your postings are truly benign and you are safe & untraceable.

And considering my post here, that other PP was only attempting to offer you some words of safe & sane advice. PP was not scolding you.
