I applied for the May 2006 start and am wondering what to expect.
Thanks!
Thanks, emloo. My BA is in Psych with a Master's in Counseling Psych. I'm not a science major. I really want an interview so that they can see what type of person I am and how much I want to be a nurse.Has anyone heard about West Suburban School of Nursing in Oak Park???
I have a coworker that just graduated from West Sub last year. She enjoyed it very much. You don't hear much about that school - I had no idea they even had a nursing program, much less a BSN route. I'd check them out, for sure.
Remember, when you graduate, the vast majority of hospitals don't give a hoot where you went to school. Just as long as you pass your boards, you should have no problem finding a job after graduation.
Hi Kathy, sorry to hear you didn't get into Loyola's ABSN. I didn't either. I had a poor undergrad GPA from over 10 years ago, and I think they mainly focused on that, despite how well I've done since.
However, I just GOT INTO RUSH'S ABSN for Jan. 2007!!! I applied Early Decision in Jan., interviewed in Feb., and just found out about a week ago I was accepted.
Rush does NOT require the NET any more. We took the TEAS, which is much harder. (I have taken both exams.) What did it take to get in? I will post a new topic on this here and you will find more info there.
In the meantime, feel free to email me if you have questions. Take care and warm wishes on your applications!
Here's my post on getting into Rush's ABSN:

I'm currently a tradional student at Loyola and have regretted my decision to attend the school every minute of my life. I got into Marquette and was accepted but due to personal/family circumstances stayed at LUC.
Be ready for an intense program if excepted into the ABSN. As for the long time to receive a accept/reject letter. Get used to longgg waits for responses to your questions, emails or phone calls. many times you will not hear back. The school makes Drastic changes to the sequence of classes and lets you know last minute. Students have no input on decisions.
Those that applied. Good luck and hope your experience is better than mine.

I wanted to give you all an idea of what to expect at RUSH during the NET/Interview process.
I applied there last year (for Jan 2006 entry into the ABSN program) and went through the whole process. The NET isn't bad; however, I suggest that you refresh your math skills. It's basic math, but fractions, percentages, and word problems can make anyone second guess their answers.
The interview process was a whole separate deal. I knew from the moment I stepped into the room that the people conducting the interview were already doubting my potential ability in their program. I have a fine arts degree (with a 3.8 GPA) and a 3.9 pre-requisite record and had worked in medical research for 3 years... yet they wouldn't let go of the fact that my BA was in fine arts. I was not accepted. I guess I don't blame them, as RUSH is quite competitive; however, I wish I had been more prepared to defend myself and sell myself as a potential nursing student.
My suggestion: when you go into the RUSH interview, have a clear idea of why you want to be a nurse, what you would like to do with your degree, if you plan on continuing with school after your BSN... and make sure you project that you are ready to be a full time nursing student who is fully dedicated to studying (especially if you are married and/or have dependents). I know that they look for this, as RUSH prides itself on its academics.
Don't give up... you will fulfill your dream of becoming a nurse. Keep your eye on the prize and keep your options open.
Chin up and best of luck! You WILL do it!
