Hi, Chi. When I went to their information session last April she said we would find out in February. Of course now I hear it's March. Where are you taking your pre-reqs at? I'm at Oakton.
Hopefully we'll be classmates. I really want to get into the program. I hear they get about 300 apps, give offers to 80 and then have about 60 go into the program. So it's extremely competitve. I'm crossing my fingers.
Kathy,
I'm at Saint Xavier University which has a standard BSN program where I am just finishing my prereqs, but the compute is really bad for me and I just want to finish sooner for all of the normal reasons so that is why I applied to Loyola...
I know how competitive it is so all I can do is hope for the best. It's hard to know what they are looking for when they have so many applicants. Now it's just the waiting that is so hard!!
Well good luck to you (and me) and thanks for the info.
I went to Loyola and did the traditional 4-year BSN, but I did have classes with ABSN students and currently work with a graduate of the program. It is the same exact classes that I took the last two years of school, but smooshed into one year. It is a great program but very challenging.
Basically, what I would take in two semesters, they nailed in one semester. Like if I took OB and Peds first semester, and two med-surg clinicals the second semester - they'd do them all in a single semester. They'd do OB and Peds at the same time, instead of back-to-back like I took them. Same with things like Pathophysiology and Pharmacology - they took them at the same time instead of one each semester.
So it is a great program, but it's just very very fast-paced. You will have classes with the traditional students as well, so be aware of that. You most likely cannot work during the ABSN program, either. Some tried, but most of them said that the program itself was so all-comsuming that they couldn't imagine when they'd have time to work.
Luckily, it's only 13 months or so, right?
I loved Loyola and most of the instructors in my nursing department. The hospitals we did clinicals at...Loyola, Northwestern, Hines VA, Weiss, St. Joseph, Michael Reese, Evanston, Childrens Memorial, Madden Psych, and tons of other non-hospital sites throughout the city.
Good luck!
Thanks for your input!! Fortunately I don't work. I'm married w/ a 15 year old son. I just heard horror stories of people pulling out their hair b/c the program was all done in 1 year. It sounds as though this girl survived so that's good news.
Where do you work at now? What department? I have no experience in the health care field but I'm excited.
I did my master's in psych at Loyola so I love the school. They will be mailing letters out at the end of this month so keep my fingers crossed for me.
