Is the AA profession gaining ground?

Another thread peaked my interest on this issue. How fast is the AA profession gaining ground? I thought they were able to practice in only 2 or 3 states last year, but now it sounds like they are able to practice in 16? Will they be able to practice in even more states soon? Comments appreciated

Patently false, sir ... unless one counts 'everything that a CRNA does' as only those few poor brow-beaten and dumbed-down CRNAs whom your notorious boss hires for his group after telling them at interview, "Lines? Blocks? No way! Forget that. You'll not be doing any of that here."

It's all derived from A$A policy: no 'nurse' will do blocks or lines, nor will they practice with any significant degree of autonomy. Big difference between those restrictions, and 'everything that a CRNA does' in my book.

Your boss won't let you do blocks or lines or practice autonomously either, will he? A falsehood, in other words -- a lie.

Why?

Once again the two AAs are straining on this NURSES BB to receive validation. Fact is, all the bragging in the world will never convince us that AAs are equal to CRNAs, fellas ... except perhaps the naive wannabees and the newbies who know no better. Experientia docet. We who've been around the block, and around the world in anesthesia, we know better.

Are AAs gaining ground? Sure. By my rough calculations, if five schools can graduate 30 grads each year, in roughly 220 years, AAs might catch up to the number of CRNAs extant in 2006.

So ... never mind.

....yawn....

Excellent - go back to sleep.

Typical though. Ignore the facts, spout off about the "A$A", which I know is your personal favorite abbreviation to toss around.

So 65% of practicing CRNA's are of the "poor brow-beaten dumbed down" variety? That's what you're saying, because that's how many practice in anesthesia care team practices with an anesthesiologist. Sure, some have more autonomy than others. The point is, the anesthesiologist is still there. If fully independent CRNA practice is the ultimate desire of the AANA, why do it's members elect a president that is part of a 100% medically-directed-by-the-book practice?

Five AA schools and counting - more in the works. Don't assume we're going to sit back and chill out.

So much talk on health care talk these days ,I think the public will wise up and see why pay a MD to watch a Crna or AA while they sit in there office? Which I, hope they ask why do Crna's needs Md's. When the public finds out we have are own license and fine its all politics ,I think there would be big changes. Jwk keep trying but it wont work if it makes you feel better that some Crna's are under md's fine, but like I said law say's it's not needed. Besides the fact that supervision is at different levels with Crna's "politics" vs AA's. Well maybe not in Georgia, never been there and don,t plan too either.

Come on, people.

Anesthetist (n): one who specializes in the administration of anesthetics.

So, looks like they are anesthetists.

That's an emotional stab at AAs, not a reasoned one. This thread, and the larger issue, certainly carries an emotional element. It reminds me of the anesthesiologist/nurse anesthetist threads. No surprise, since we all want to defend our career choices and sacrifices.

The pattern seems to be: Anesthesiologists are threatened by CRNAs. CRNAs are threatened by AAs. AAs are thwarted by CRNAs, but have increasingly strong backing by MDs.

I don't know if the AANA has always played fair in its lobbying efforts against AAs ("fair" is a murky term in American politics), but it is clear that there is more to it than merely "suppressing the competition". Let's not deny that many anesthesiologists would prefer AAs merely because you pose less threat to their economic well-being. And so-on.

Increasingly strong backing! Who do you think created AAs? They have always had the strong backing of MDs.

AAs were created to limit the power of CRNAs, see proposed NC legistlation. AA practice is CONTROLLED by anesthesiologists, not ours. MDAs and AAs sell AAs as a God send and the equivalent to CRNAs. Afterall, they make the same money. If the MDA must supervise AAs, well then shouldn't they have to supervise CRNAs? They're the functional equivalent afterall, they do make the same money. THe ASA wants the lines blurred between the two. Don't buy into it.

As a result of AAs the ASA can push their agenda from two fronts. The AAs have 100k+ "anesthetist jobs" and families to feed and will fight to preserve "their profession" kind of like a mercenary for the ASA. While the ASA fights from its own front that includes fighting all legistlation to expand the practice of all APRNs. Leaving CRNAs in the middle to fight a two front war.

Georgia and JWK, are without a doubt good at what they do and I respect they're knowledge about anesthesia. However; they're agenda is to increase AA practice and by de facto the ASA agenda which runs contrary to the practice most CRNAs enjoy today.

Any one else take issue with AAs calling themselves "anesthetists"? If I am correct, the title is Anesthesiologist Assistant.

Do PAs go around calling themselves "practitioners" or some other title? No, they call themselves Physicians Assistants. Hmmm...vaguely reminds me of regulations in some states where you can only call yourself a nurse if you are an RN (not a CNA, nursing student, etc.).

Most PAs just say "PA". Just as a slight, gentle correction, it is not "Physicians" Assistant. Drop the "s" off the title.

I agree here. I dont think 100% of AA's are lobbying against CRNA's and their practice. I do believe however that the ASA antagonizes the issue and uses the AA profession as leverage and threats. Yeah of course AA's are going to fight for their profession but the ASA is more interested in control that anything. They incenuate that when there are more AA's that they will them just because they have no political clout what so ever and are no threat.

If you gave a crap at all about your future profession, you might pipe down a little bit and realize the greater picture here. Haven't you got a phone book or something to memorize?

Oh, I give a crap. This mind numbing re-hashing of the same stuff has just gotten so mind-numbing and contains so much drivel and has just been beaten to death that I can't memorize the phone book. Here's my $0.02 so you can go by a sense a humor or get laid or something. :smackingf :lol_hitti

I think the word you are looking for is "buy".

Anyway, it was funny to me, really don't care what you think.

....or get laid or something

Come up with something better than this please. It's about as worn out as all the "yo momma" jokes.

Not intended as a joke...you appear to be one who needs to release a lot of tension and angst. Ok, yoga perhaps? Someone on here that could probably help you with that one.
