Hey everyone,
I plan on applying to IRSC's Nursing program for Spring 2017, and thought I would create this thread for us to talk about the application process! I was wondering if anyone knew the best way to study for the NLN? I keep seeing that they're updating the exam on IRSC's website, so I'm not sure if I should use the current study materials? Also has anyone had troubles figuring out transfer credits? I will have a BS from FSU and the courses that I've taken for A&P and Microbio have different course codes than the ones IRSC offers.
Good luck to everyone who plans on applying! Hopefully this thread can be as helpful as the last few semesters' threads have been.
Just paid my application fee & signed up to take my exam Sept 12th!!! EKKK I'm so nervous!!
@1awkwardgirl - yea it did the same thing to me. It shows it at the bottom of my home page but I don't think it'll show up on exam page till you go to take exam and get a "launch code" I believe they called it.
Good luck everyone!
**If you're comfortable pls come back here after you take the test to give us your test score. So everyone can compare!**
What are you guys doing to study for the nln?
I am using the red NLN book and I am also using the Mcgraw practice test booklet as well. I am also using this website called Khan Academy to help me with science and math topics covered in the red NlN booklet. However even though I have all these resources I am still nervous as hell about this test lol
Did anyone go to the Information session today? There was mention of taking the TABE test. Is that if you aren't currently attending IRSC? I'm confused as to why that test was suggested to be taken.
When I went, she said that the TABE will give you a better idea of where you need improvement for the NLN. Once you're accepted into the program, you'll be required to take it. So it won't hurt to do it now when it could help you with the NLN.

They suggest that you take the TABE but I am holding off on taking the TABE test because say I don't get into the nursing program but I pass the TABE then your TABE scores are only good for two years and then you may have to take the TABES test again . So what I am doing is waiting until I get into the nursing program and then I will take the TABE because I talked to my advisor and she said you have until you graduate from the nursing program to pass the TABE test so I am waiting to take it only because I cannot handle studying for the NLN, Taking fall classes, working and trying to take the TABE test all at the same time but that's just me lol! and what also got me worried was when they said if you didn't pass that you had to get remediation and I thought that was taking more classes but that's not the case you just have to meet with an ASC tutor at the ASC lab on your own time and they help you with the areas on the TABE that you didn't do well on and then once you work with them enough then you can take the TABE test again. That's just what I know about the TABE :)

Yeah I thought it would be a little much for me too. The good thing is then that we have until graduation to take it. Thank you for the info!!

Yes your LPN license is worth points for this application process! however after this application process and after the Fall of 2018 application they will no longer count your LPN license as points towards your application! And don't be nervous about the NLN I have a feeling they are making it much easier this time then previous NLN tests since they lowered the required score to have you be accepted and they have given us a calculator for the test when before they did not give us a calculator.
