Hi everyone! I just thought I'd start the new State forums off with an introduction thread. Please feel free to reply to this thread if you wish. Otherwise, feel free to start a new topic if you wish to discuss other topics that are local or state related. Enjoy!

Hickory,MS he is currently employed at La-Z-Boy in Newton, MS. I hear that the Jackson area is a good area for nurses, better job opportunities + pay, etc.Thank you for your reply Manna!:)

No problem! I'm familiar with that area... I've been taking pre-reqs at ECCC in Decatur. (I live in Louisville)

Good luck! :)

Thank You! but you know you are right @ me if you're taking classes at ECCC I'm currentlyb enrolled at MCC trying to get my pre-reqs for nursing, are you okay with ECCC? I thought about changing from Meridian to ECCC is why I ask it will be a lot closer especially since the gas prices are over the roof.:)

I actually took my A&P, Micro and a few other classes from MCC. Here's my take on the two schools -

MCC - profs/classes are harder/more challenging, but the people there in general are much more helpful in general, office hours/labs are open later - more conducive to non-traditional/working students, etc

ECCC - some classes here I've found to be easier than the ones I took at MCC, but profs don't seem to be as interested in helping students out (especially non-trads), office staff has a chip on their shoulder

This is just my experience between the two schools, but I'd probably stick with MCC if you're happy there.... I almost went to x-ray tech school there last year! :)

I've taken loads of online (MSVCC) classes from both schools, too.

I know what you mean about gas prices! Eek! I'll be attending the BSN program at the "W" in Columbus beginning this summer, and that's a 60-mile one-way drive from my house! :o

My goodness, but anyway Good Luck to you, and I added you to my buddylist because I will be keeping in contact with you and probaly asking you some nursing advice and so on. I've also heard that about ECCC so I will stick with the ADN program at MCCC and maybe go Deaconess or EC online for my BSN. See ya!:)

What is this...East Central MS Nx Message Board? LOL I live in Union...small world, huh? Now you can see why I was in culture shock 6 months ago living in Los Angeles. Don't be so excited to go to work in Jackson..I was at one of the HUGE hospitals there, charged a 30 bed stepdown unit for 2 years. Great potential, but everyone was so busy kissing admin's @$$ and watching the bottom line, it was a fight to get staffed; most nights we were full-acute MI's, CHF, preop and postop CABG..and we were LUCKY to have 3 RN's on the floor, and one of those was usually agency that had NO cardiac experience, much less ACLS certified. As you can guess, 'our' hospital is a mile from my home, now being bought by Rush....should be interesting. I have had a long relationship with the little local hospital and hope they don't get chewed up by the big one. I am working in Tupelo now...great hospital, great unit and great nurses. I came there to get closer to home after leaving CA...but the travel bug is biting! This contract ends in July...after kids are back in school, I WILL be 'on the road again!'

How funny! Welcome to allnurses, by the way, flinky! :)

I've been back and forth to Meridian on a regular basis lately, since all the physicians our group plan covers are located there. I'm not a nurse yet... starting school at the "W" this fall.

Where do you work in Tupelo? My brother is an MD there - finishing up his residency this year with NMMC.

I'm at NMMC..Stepdown unit...very good hospital. I may well have met your brother...here we call the residents "The Posse"..LMAO We admit a patient, they arrive in a pack..thus, 'the posse is here.' Then every day 5 'docs' see the same pt, constantly changing the orders written by the previous resident. It's kinda funny in a way, since I was nursing before they started school. Most are cool and open to *ahem* "suggestion"..but there is ONE that drives me INSANE..beats the dead horse, etc..I hope it's not your brother!..LOL

It probably is! :rotfl:

I love him to death, but I wouldn't want to work with him... he's a very abrasive, very "know it all" kind of guy. I can imagine he gives his staff hell.

He's chief resident this year, so maybe that narrows it down. :)

Hi,

I am from Vicksburg, have worked at the hell flinky has and was a charge nurse for the same unit she speaks of. HELL I TELL YOU!! I am in California right now working and will be home for a couple of months soon. I will be off again after that. My husband is a nurse also and he travels with me. Seeing the world (united states) together.....one state at a time.

Flinky.....add wyoming, montana and idaho to the list!!!

I was looking at your quote on the bottom and then I looked at mine. I wonder how such good friends can think so differently? I mean about the choose your battles. I agree with the way we choose to feel.

Hi

My name is Mary Ann & I have been a nurse for 38 years. I have spent my whole career working in Chicago. We are thinking about moving to the Biloxi area, so I thought I'd check out the Mississippi site!
