How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.
I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.
Care to share?
Hi Amy
I know how frustrate dyou must be to have a degree in Psych and then have to take a Intto to Psych course. The same thing happened to me. I have a minor in Psych and had to take a birth through death course. I had covered birth through death, just not in one course.
Anyhow.....just think of it as one of the many hoops to jump through. Take care and good luck.

rachel, hello and welcome! all the best to you.originally posted by rayraehey all, i am rachel, 19 yrs old, a second year nursing student starting first clinicals in less than 2 weeks and terrified, that i will actually be sticking needles in people instead of hot dogs and rubber arms! but somewhere inside all that scaredness, i'm also hopeful (i think :) )
amy, welcome to the board! much continued success to you.originally posted by amylizhello all!
i'm 32 y/o (soon to be 33 in may) with a bachelors in psychology. i haven't used the degree hardly at all since i got in in december 1994. i've done mostly office work, admin asst-type jobs since then. i have always had a keen interest in the medical field. since i was a kid, really...i wanted to be a nurse in early elementary school, then i wanted to be a medical examiner later in elementary school (i blame it on watching quincy all those years! :chuckle ) i didn't think of seriously going into the medical field until just this past year when my husband started having some medical problems (he's got an acoustic neuroma which will be surgically removed next week and had a nasty bout with kidney stones earlier this month). i realized how much at ease i was in emergency situations & how i still really felt drawn to healthcare. so now i've enrolled in an adn program at my local community college. i start classes next month, prereq's this first quarter: chemistry & intro to healthcare delivery. after that i can take the pax-rn exam & be admitted into the program. the only thing that kind of irritated me was that i have to take intro to psych again, as it had been over 10 years since i took that particular class.
seems ridiculous to me since i have a whole degree in the subject and could probably teach the course myself. but, then i figure...it should be an easy a!

I have applied for the fall clinicals and should find out if I am accepted in about 2 weeks. I really enjoy reading what everyone has to say. Good luck to all who are already there and hopefully I'll be joining you soon!

Hi! I am in my third semester out of four for ADN-RN program. I have a bachelor's in Behavioral Science/Gerontology, but have always been facinated by medicine. I just received confirmation of being a Nurse Intern in Orthopaedics for the summer. I am sooooooo psyched seeing the internship program was so competitive. I'm married and have two dogs!
