How about a thread that will allow us to introduce ourselves to those who are new and the new students can do the same.
I am Stephany, 42, mother of 3 children, a son 22, a daughter 15, and a son 13. I am an LPN of nearly 11 years, and I am in my first semester of a five-semester rn program.
Care to share?

Bonnie, I am 58 and decided I was not challenged enough by a job I loved, nutritionist for over 15 yrs.. I just needed more. I always thought about nursing and have 8 more weeks in the RN program. I love clinicals, not doing care plan after care plan. I don't ever want to retire so this is it for me. I think I am going to really like it.
8 more long weeks!
Good luck to you....

It is never too late to change careers! In fact, people do change careers at least 6 to 8 times in their working life. It's far better to change careers that you feel passionate about than to be "stuck" in a job you cannot stand. Everyone has the choice to make a change; the ones who do are usually better off to take the plunge!

hi, i'm brandie. married to my high school sweatheart for 10 years (been together 17). we have three beautiful children. i am (hopefully) going to be accetped into an rn program starting this fall. i am finishing up on my pre-reqs. from what i have heard, the hardest is at the beginning. a&p, micro, etc. if you can get that down first, then you will probably have no trouble with nursing school. i love a good challenge and do my best when people doubt me. i am just getting familiar with this site also, and i will probably be visiting often. good luck to all. :)
e=tashia]hi..
i am 20, single, live at home with my family who fosters children under the age of 2 and i hope to start school in sept for an lpn (or as they call it in ontario) an rpn.
i've been out of school for a while so i hope i can do alright. i don't know, hearing all the horror stories about how hard nursing school is i'm starting to feel a little nervous
any suggestions? :stone
Hello everyone. I'm ronald 20 yr old in a RN program at my local community college. Umm I have no kids, but I've been on my own since I was 19. I have 2 more semsters before i can take the NCLEX and start working. I find it hard to balance school, working 32 hours a week, and my relationship with my girlfriend. But everything has been going great with school. :biggringi
Hi everone! My name is Theresa, been married to Rusty for 17 years. We have three kids, 12, 14 & 15, and my step-daughter is 20. I did medical transcription for 10 yrs out of my home, but carpal tunnel got me. My kids are old enough for me to go do more now, so I'm waiting to get into a local nursing program. It was kinda freaky going back to school at 38, but I adjusted quickly. I absolutely love school and can't wait to get into the meat of it all! Took a sign language course as a filler, and loved it so much I'm going to take all six quarters of it. Ya never know when you're gonna have a deaf patient, and I know some local kids I can work with in that area. My goal is to do hospice here in my hometown...there are not enough local people taking care of the local people. Love to cook/bake (chinese meals & creme horns are my favorites), and Rsu & I are very active musically on the church scene. Looking forward to making lots of friends here!
On a side note, I am VERY frustrated right now. My first quarter taking prerecs, I pulled a 4.0. Even with Chemistry, which I never took in high school. Well, had to take another chem this quarter, different prof who talkes way above everyone's heads. I worked my butt off! As on all but one quiz, As on all but one lab, A on paper I had to write, and Bs on two midterms. Come time for final and I'm extremely sick. Missed help session before final, but went in early next day to get help from another prof. Still very sick when took final, trouble concentrating. Sinuses full, face and head pounding, can't quit coughing. Got a friggin 67.:angryfire I maybe could have lived with that if it weren't for my final grade...78.1. 1.9 away from a B.:angryfire Not good, especially when this week when all grades are in system, they pull by GPA to fill the 2-3 spots that have come open for the Fall nursing class. I know I got As in my other classes, so this just really bites! I guess I need to quit expecting perfection (yet still strive for it). I'm on a time restraint, though. BVR is paying for my school and BWC is paying my wages for 3 yrs while I'm in school...that gave me a year for prerecs & 2 for nursing...assuming I got in Fall quarter of 2nd year.
Sorry...just needed to vent a little.
Can't figure out how to set permanent signature...have the box checked to allow them, but see nowhere to put mine in. Help?

I like the church music scene myself. I sing on our praise team. Keep singin' His song!!!
Hi, I'm Alicia, I'm 18, and I'm currently juggling a CNA job at a local nursing home/retirement home with high school -- thank goodness my Mom takes the time and patience to homeschool me, or I wouldn't be able to do it! :yelclap:
I hope to start the prerequsites for a nursing program at Franciscan University in the fall of 2005. I'm really excited -- it's so close!
Hope to get to know you all better once I'm actually a nursing student and can "get" what you're talking about!

Hi, I'm brad, 26 yrs old, currently work f/t as a CNA in LTC. Also enrolled in ASN program, with graduation slated for Spring 2007. CAN'T WAIT! I plan on going as far with my education as possible, as I am still young. I have many avenues to chose from in the nursing field, and I absolutely love that fact. My current considerations are CRNP, CRNA, and Flight/Transport Nurse. But, I am open to new ideas and possibilities, and that is one of the main reasons I'm here. The only thing holding me back is the confidence in my academic and personal abilities to go any farther than just a simple RN with an ASN Degree (not that there is anything wrong with that!). But the truth of the matter is, I strive to be challenged, and making lots of money would be nice as well! On a personal note, I am married, no kids (just two dogs), live in PA, and...um...i guess thats it for now. Now I will try to become oriented with this site, as I know I will be using it plenty in the next 2-5 years! Thanks everyone.
