  1. Hello I am a senior in my nursing program and I am doing a presentation on pedophiles. I'm just looking for other nurses insight on the topic and to see if I am leaving anything important out. Their is more to my presentation but it is too much to type. Thanks everyone that is taking the time to read this and reply. I was just wondering about the roles of the nurse when you have a pt that is a pedophilic. I know you sort out your own feelings about the situation, so you are not judgmental in front of the pt. I am having trouble finding out what the nurses role is for the adult that is a pedophile. Any information would be great. Also I was wondering what everything thinks the role of the nurse is for a child that is a victim of a pedophile. What are the other signs and symptoms of a child that may have been sexually assaulted? I have these so far. Assessment of child I know that sexual trauma, STD's, pregnancy, chronic uti's in young children. Behavior of the child may Be wary of physical contract with adults Fear of caretaker Rage or withdrawal Verbal reporting of abuse Running away from home Sexual promiscuity Unusual sexual knowledge Sexual abuse of others Anxiety Is their anything that I am leaving out? Other then the assessment and reporting of the event what are the other roles of the nurse? Thanks everyone. :)
  2. I know kaiser starts off their new grad RN's at 38 an hour. Says it right here in the union contract.
  3. Most of the community colleges in the bay area do not have wait lists. But that doesnt mean you will get in on your first try. I'm in my second yeard at ECV in san jose and we had 400 applications and only 80 got in for my class. The frist year nursing students had about the same applications turned in but they only took 60 because they are having trouble finding nursing instructors.
  4. I haven't had much problems with male or female patients. The only time I had about being a male was in L&D when a few patients didn't want to have a male student nurse which was understandable.
  5. We have 15 males in my class of 60 students. When I started my rn program last year we had about 18, we lost a few during our time in OB.
  6. I just finished my ER extership and I had to put in foleys on the codes that were coming in. You get used to having people around in the ED during the codes because I would have 4=5 people in the room with me while doing the foley's. Micro caths are great if your just doing a stright cath to get a sample.
  7. Im still a student RN, so I am driving my 96 tacoma with 120,000 miles on it. I plan on driving it until it dies, but who knows I will be done with school next may if all goes well so I may buy a motorcycle.
  8. Were all treated the same in my RN program. I've noticed that some of our clinical teachers have a fav. students that get away with a little bit more, but I guess thats about it.
  9. Evergreen Valley College ADN program. I have two more semsters left to go, so grad class of 06. I've noticed that my clinical teachers have given me about the same number of males and female patients. OB was ok i guess my hospital was not the best for that routation because pt's there did not like having male students and the nurses treated me and the other guy in my clinical group differnt then the females in our group. Just started pedi and its been great.

I finished my OB clinical's about two weeks ago. It was a good experience when the nurses actually allowed me to do procedures. They seemed fine when they were with my female classmates, but oh well it was just something we had to get out of the way. The patients that I ended up having in L&D and post partum were great and a few of my nurses just left everything up to me like all the assessments etc. I think it has to do about location because my other classmates in other hospitals had no problems with their nurses because they are at teaching hospitals. The hospital i was at did not have many students, so the nurses weren't used to allowing students to do things.
  11. Everything went fine. Just finished my day at the hospital. The child had no fluid restitions so I flushed with 2 cc's just to make sure it went in. After that I helped out with a pt codeing in the PICU. Overall it was a great experience for me.
  12. I just found my answer. I know im going to be giving .08ml of the med. I have to flush it with 1 or 2 ml because it is a very small tube. Thanks though.
  13. I have to give meds to a 5 month old boy though a NG tube and i was just wondering how many mL's do i have to flush it with. I've done this before in med/surg but never on someone so young and small 4.8 kg. I know the child could get about 480 mls in 24 hrs. Thanks for helping me out.
  14. Evergreen Valley College. Only two more semsters to go
  15. I'm in evergreens nursing program. We started off with 80 students and went down to about 60. The classes you need to take before the program are getting harder and harder to get because many people taking those classes are doing it for nursing. We do our clinicals all over the place some at good Sam, kaiser santa clara and santa theresa, and valley. I went to evergreen because all the hospitals around here say good things about their students. Check out their website http://www.evc.edu and go to programs and click on nursing. Good lucky with everything. I dont want to scare you but if you want to make sure you get in then you will need a high GPA. The year I started the first 40 students that got in had at least a 3.7 GPA and the rest were picked at random.
