Hello all!

I will be starting my first school nurse job officially after Labor Day but will be going in all next week for professional development.

Prior to this position, I was an ER nurse, worked in sexual and reproductive health, and community health. I am really excited to make this transition, but also terrified. I am bracing myself for the fact that I will probably not receive any training so any words of wisdom, resources, or inside tips would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking forward to becoming more active on this board as soon as I know what the heck I am doing!

Welcome! You have a history similar to mine (ER nursing, then some time in womens reproductive health, followed by school nursing)

The first year was CRAZY for me and honestly had me questioning my decision...this forum here was a fantastic find and has provided me with more resources then my mentor within the school district.

It has been very much a learn as you go process. It was quite a transition for me as in my district there is no one over seeing you (sure there is administration but they have ZERO clue as to what the school nurse actually does)...I hated this fact the first year but now I love it, they leave me be, I do what i need to do and come to them when I need something (backing it up with information on why I need it) and they have always supplied ?

Welcome!

You will have a lot of support here. I am a CMA, 4 years experience and 3 years of experience in school nursing. Used to have my own clinic but now I'm working in a district helping the RNs.

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!
