Into which "specialty" message board do I fit?

Specializes in Pediatric Private Duty; Camp Nursing.

I am a home health nurse. I work with peds and I have one client per day and I stay anywhere from 8-12 hours. When I look under this specialty topic, it's mostly all about the other type of home health work where you see many patients each day. Under "Agency Nursing", It's mostly nurses who are placed in LTC or hospitals per diem. "Private Duty" is not very frequented and seems to address the concerns of the independent contractor.

I know that what I do is very common, where are the other nurses like me?

The home health forum does not attract a lot of traffic. The private duty and agency forums likewise. If you look on other nursing websites, you will also find that the home health thread topics are close to nonexistent. Seems like after the same general topics have been visited a few times, home health nurses don't have much to say.

Hi! Over here!

We aren't a large number - Private Duty Nursing is the best option. I usually just scroll through "what's new" since I'm here so often but the more organized among us probably favorite the forum and check each day for new posts, since it's so sporificely populated new stuff submerges ours in a matter of minutes.

I love hearing from others about our unique specialty ... :)

I guess from my vantage point, agency-run private home duty seems bigger than it really is. I am crazy with work, my schedule is packed for February... I have 4 days off this month and if I'd take more they'd give it to me! There are agencies like this all over where I live, and I don't even know where I'd get the type of job that has me seeing multiple clients per day.

What agency do you work for, Nursel56? I'm with Bayada and I LOVE them!! But I sometimes get lonely. I know so many of the nurses by name only... from them signing paperwork for the same clients for which I work. But I don't really know anyone! I meet nurses sometimes for orientations, but then that's it. Maybe not having co-workers is a GOOD thing sometimes, if my friends' complaining on Facebook about their co-workers is any indicator

Hi!!!

I do shift work too!

I generally go to the peds forum, because I only take peds cases. Also, sometimes the PICU page because I usually get put with the kiddos that are T/V dep, amoung other things.

and I agree, it can get lonely sometimes... esp. if your kiddo has some significant delays

Hi,I'm a shift Peds homecare nurse as well. I agree it seems like a huge area of nursing that doesn't really completely fit under a speciality. Your not alone I kInd of drift in and out of a bunch of the regular and speciality forums here. Pm me if you like I'll talk about anything really. Alex

Hi guys! Maybe we need our own specialty board. How do we go about getting one put on here on AN? Who do we talk to?
