Interview an RN!!!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi everyone, I need to interview an RN for one of my classes and since I dont know any RN's I was wondering if someone who is an RN can help me out. My questions are... How many years have you been a registered nurse? What field are you practicing in? Do you enjoy it? What kind of education did you get? (two year or four year program?) What was most helpful in developing specific skills? Did you ever have a reality shock? Meaning did you think nursing was going one thing but then it turned out to be something else? If so, how do you deal with it? What do you like about being a nurse? What are your dislikes? Do you think you made the right choice when you became a nurse? and finally is there anything you would like to say to anyone who is thinking about becoming a nurse?

I would really appreciate the help. If there's anything else you would like to add on please feel free to express yourself.

Welcome

I have moved this to the general forum

Specializes in postpartum and gynecology.

1. 5 years this December

2. Obstetrics and gynecology - postpartum and gyne surgeries

3. Love it. especially the gyne surgery part. Very rewarding area to work in. A lot of happiness... mixed with the inevitable sadness...

4. 2 1/2 years although I'm currently doing a distance BN program

5. Most helpful in developing skills is hands down actually doing the skills over and over. hands on clinical experience. I can hear and read over and over but i always learn best by doing... although this is different for every person as we all learn differently.

6. Nursing school was a reality shock. I hated every second till I got to my obs/gyn rotation. soo glad i found my niche there. But really the transition was pretty good from preceptoring to actual nursing.

7. I love being able to help people. :nurse:I love seeing them with their new family. I love the rush of an emergent situation like a hemmorhage. I love the high emotions that can come from different situations.

8. the politics. Its nuts.:banghead: Actually back to the reality shock... i think the politics of nursing shocked me most of all. I was a 20 year old nurse and it just blew me away. I still hate it all. I don't like that some patients assume we're glorified waitresses at their beck and call.

9. I think i made the right choice at the time. I love nursing, although I could see me going in a different direction after I finish getting my degree...

10. Make sure this is what you want and if it is buckle down and enjoy the ride! Its a rewarding carreer but like all things there are both good and bad, but if you love what you do you are able to get passed the bad.

Hope this helps you!!:p
