Interview for a med/surg unit this Friday!

Woot. I put in an application online a couple of days ago for an ICU/CCU position at a local hospital nearby. I am going to graduate in May of this year, and i also work as a nurse extern at a major hospital in the area in a urology/orthopaedic department, so it can't hurt to throw out your resume to different places to get your foot in the door somewhere right? Well, I got a phone call from HR, and they said "We normally don't hire new grads for any critical care areas here, but since you have extern experience in orthopaedics, we think our director would look at you for a med/surg unit." I think it would be good, especially in this economy to take what I can get at this point, but also med/surg would be like a third choice for me because it gives good experience correct?

Also, I guess my main question is.... does anyone know what I can expect during the interview? I've never had an interview thats going to be this professional. I mean I know how to dress and look good :smokin:

Any other ideas?

Wish me luck! I'm pumped.

I would definitely dress business professional!! I'm in my 2nd semester of an ADN program and recently had an interview for a summer externship as an RN Extern. The Directer of Nursing asked me some tough questions (tough for me because I'm not a nurse yet!)....basically clinical questions. What would you do if you had this many patients and then she gave descriptions of what they were doing/needed and which one would I see first.....other questions were critical thinking questions....what would I do in certain situations....it definitely made me sweat...lol.

Just be confident and professional....& have a great resume with you too!

Good luck!!!

Oh yea....and I got the job!!!

Im still a nursing student so I cant give you any idea about what they are going to ask you at an interview .... JUST WANTED TO WISH YOU GOOD LUCK:yeah::yeah::yeah::yeah::bdyhdclp:

yes, i had a pretty thorough interview for my nurse externship position. basically 45 minutes of asking about me, what my thoughts were on certain subjects, random stuff, such as "what influenced me the most in life" or "tell me a time that made me proud of something that i accomplished".

fortunately ive been through a lot of random stuff in my life, so i was able to draw from it and give an honest answer! i used to play a game where i had people would name a subject and i'd tell a story from my life on it :p

thanks guys! ill let ya know how it goes :p

They slotted me into a PRN tech night position, so that when I graduate they can give me a nursing job. She said the interview went extremely well, and that as long as my tech position goes good like they think it will, then they will find an RN job for me when I graduate!

Woot. It's neat too, because my mom has been seeing one doctor at this hospital since 88, and I've had a doctor there for at LEAST 10 years. I get to work at the hospital I've been going to the doctor at now! :p
